37 Weeks, 2 CM, dilating, effacing... Is this normal for a first time mom??

Hey everyone! My midwife told me she's VERY impressed with my cervix and that i'm dilating 1cm every week since we started our weekly appointments.. And she used words like effacing, protruding and thinning?! I guess I wanted to know is this common and if anyone else had similar symptoms how soon after they delivered? I've been losing my plug the last few days (I guess I don't know how BIG a plug is or isn't) and I was definitely feeling painful braxton hicks' today....

Hi, sorry I can't be any help, we don't get checked internally here until labour or a sweep. Sounds very positive though! Good luck!

I started with the thinning etc at 35 weeks went into pre-term labour. They stopped it at the hospital and the MW won't check me until i'm 40w but as I've lost my plug and get contractions all the time i'm hopping their doing something.

sounds normal You can be upto 3cm without even knowing it (some women even more but its a lot less common). I went into hospital to be checked after my waters broke (no contractions) and was 3cm. If my waters hadnt of broke I'd have had no idea. They dont call it 'established' labour until you're 3-4cm

hello! im a first time mom too and my dr told me at my 38 week appt that I was 1 cm dilated and 70 percent effaced. From what I understand we could be like this for weeks... but its always a good sign to know that your body is preparing!! good luck!

i was 4cm dialated the day i had my son and i had no idea. i was 38weeks. i had only went in to be checked out but my son was born via emergency section though so i dnt know how long it would have went on for. sounds normal though i think xxx

Sound pretty normal to me! I will be 37 weeks on Tuesday and at my doctors appointment this past Wednesday, I was already 1 cm! I have been walking and having sex with my fiance to try to hurry the effacement and dialation along. Im pretty sure it is working, but I will know for sure on Wednesday when I get checked again! Mayybe we will be the lucky ones who do not have to wait until our due date to see our babies!

sounds normal! im 39 weeks tomorrow, had an appointment on friday and was only a fingertip dilated

I was 2 cm and head down low at 36 weeks, still 2 cm 75% effaced here and now 39 weeks, for some women you stay in this phase for weeks, but it is definently a good thing that your body is preparing itself!
