Hi

My week cant get any worse honestly. 2 friends announced there pg and not even trying!
My car breaks and im skint!
then get 3rd analysis in and its rubbish

Appearance: Normal
Volume: 5ml
ph: 7.5

Motility - 11% Rapid Profressive
39% Slow or sluggish progressive
20% non-progressive motility
30% immotile

Count 28.8 million/ml (so total count 144 million)

Morphology 14.6%

Not gonna get pg ever! Im so upset!

I would be happy with this. Not sure what you mean about this bit??

Count 28.8 million/ml (so total count 144 million)

Are you only counting the 11% that are progressive here?? If so it's still pretty good. What bit of the SA are you told is rubbish?xx

This SA is not that bad. The morphology is just at the bottom end of a normal percentage. The motility is a little low but not extremely low. Did a doctor go over the results with you? If not maybe they can go over everything and explain it all to you.

Yeah, I'm with cooch, what part did they tell you was bad? I'm asking cause I'm not that familiar with SA results, as I only have my husband's to look at, which they told me was fine. If you know which part they said was bad then we could research that aspect and see if it's as bad as you think. Here's my hubby's for comparative purposes though (it seems like some things are reported differently, so not sure how easy it is to compare though):

Volume: 3 cc (same as 3 ml)
pH: 7.5
concentration: 38.9 million/cc (so i guess total of 116.7 milion)
semen motility: 60.5 %
semen progression score: 2%
total motile sperm in ejaculate: 70.6 (oh, so that's the 60.5% motile...and 39.5% non-motile)
normal sperm (Kruger strict morphology): 8% (0-4: unfavorable; 5-7%: suboptimal; 8% or greater is favorable)
slightly amorphous: 5%
Abnormal: 87% !!!!!

And with that they said it was a good SA and we should be fine to get pregnant naturally...well, assuming i didn't have issues, which i do.

So what part is bad? The motile part? If 11% are very motile then you had 15.84 very motile soldiers in 5ml, that sounds good to me. And 14% morphology is amazing!

Here are a couple of links. The first one is a blog so how much weight you want to give to it is up to you. The second states in a table what the criteria were that was set by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and what they now say is normal.

The Napro Ferility specialist I'm seeing as well as the NHS Professor I saw all state 4% is the normal (now but hasn't always been) and the NHS even went as far as to say they don't take into account morphology.

see our doctor told my hubby that 28.8 million per ml is very low and should be around 60 million per ml.

Its the only 11% fast, its this not bad.

thanks ladies for reassuring me then, maybe my understanding is wrong.

i will read them links thanks Cooch

thanks again

28.8 may be on the low side of normal but it's still above 20 million which the links cooch put up said was fine. 60 mil sounds like an aweful lot. Maybe try to find some more research on what # is normal. But I think the SA is fine and not another problem to worry about. :hugs:

Those are pretty much the same results my hubby got this week and the specialist said they were fine and we cud even try iui before ivf as sample was good enough so I wouldn't worry too much

Hi, I'm confused, my dh SA was 20 million, but volume 2ml I think, they wouldn't give us a print our grrr! Does this mean he actually had 40 million? Also it said motility 45% but morphology 5% is this very bad? the dr told us gently we will need ICSI.

From what we've been learning since this post started  (LOL). 20 million is the cut off for normal (if it's per ml and not total: you would have to ask or see the print out). And normal volume is suppose to be above 3ml (all according to the links previously listed). 5% morphology depends on the scale...and apparently how harsh they are grading, as it seems to be a little objective. If you are already doing IVF, then how much more is ICSI, seems like if you're already at that stage, it would only be a bonus. I don't know how it works in UK, I know they pay for a lot but I don't know if they pay for everything. Also, here in the US you can always get a copy of your records; not right on the spot, but you fill out a paper, pay for the copies and generally you can have them within a week. That's how I brought all my records to a new RE when I was unhappy with my first.

Hi Phoenixrose, thanks so much for your reply. I'm going to have to get dh to ring gp and ask for print out again, she laughed yesterday when I said I wanted it and said it's because I wanted to google the heck out of the results, which is true, but I just want to understand how bad it is!

I think we will end up going for ICSI, we've had no intervention so far, in the UK my gp said she thinks we will get funding for two tries. My husband said we will try those two times and that's it. He keeps saying 'what will be will be!' I just don't think he wants this as bad as I do :sad1:

My husbands SA was way worse than yours and my doctor didn't seem to be concerned about it at all. They were all in normal range. I'm scared now though.

thanks so much for these links, they have made me feel better. Just need to get his swimmers swimming fast?
However he did abstain for 6 days! I know a long time but was away and then it was AF. The test centre said this was fine tho.

If your still concerned I would recommend redoing it and only obstain for the standard 2 days (BD skip one day then test). Maybe 6 days is ok for for a general idea, but I don't think it's ok if they want to tell you to get more invasive procedures done based on its results.

yeah they said that the count was low but to keep trying it can still happen.

Think i am also having issues with hormonal imbalance aswell, think i might be having annovulatory cycles :-( i have regular cycles but bloods confirmed ovulation and then i had some more and they were showing progesterone levels of 24, but i still having clockwork periods. I have started taking Agnus castus, so hopefully this will help.
