How much formula should LO be drinking? I'm expressing and giving Aptimil via a bottle as she won't really take to breast. She's not waking for feeds for like 4-6 hours at a time and then only takes 2oz or so. I kno with breast feeding they should be having eight good feeds in 24 hour, but have no idea with bottle feeding. She's quite small, born at 6lb 8oz. Just need some advice, when my daughter was born she was huge and fed very regularly so this is taking some getting my head around!

Thanks in advance, Rebecca x

2oz is a fine amount for your baby's age. Personally though I would offer her milk at least every 4 hours in the first few weeks. She is probably still quite tired from the birth, and her appetite should pick up soon and will feed more frequently. xx

2oz is a good amount:thumbup: I really wouldn't worry your baby will make sure you know when shes hungry or not had enough my baby girl was 6lbs 4oz at birth and was breastfeeding as well as having formula top ups she was only taking 30ml/1oz in the first week and a half slowly working up to 60ml/2oz, she also slept for 4-6 hours without waking:sleep:, people told me to leave her to sleep as she would wake up if she was hungry and enjoy the silence but I didn't like:nope: the idea of such a small baby not feeding for such long periods of time so I would purposely wake her up every 3-4hours.

Hope that helps:flower:

2 ounces is fine but my doctor told me to wake my boy up every 3 hours to feed because newborns are sleepy and may be hard for them to wake up. Best thing is to consult your own doctor tho.

2 ounces is fine! A good general rule is 2.5 ounces of formula per pound in a 24 hour period. So let's say your LO is 7 pounds. 7 x 2.5 = 17.5 ounces. 17.5 ounces divided by 8 feedings is 2.1 ounces or so each time she eats. So you are right on track.

Until she has regained her birthweight, I would wake her every 3/4 hours to feed at night to make sure she gets those calories.
