midwife said 2nd/3rd+ baby's dont normally engage until your
almost in labour, but she had a good feel and stopped, then had
another feel and said in a surprised voice hes 4/5 engaged.

Anyone else been like this? I dont know when my daughter engaged
as i wasnt having antenatal care towards the then with her as i
moved house.

Just wondering if it means he might be early or whether he might
come back up and engage again nearer the time?

I've been 3/5 engaged for a couple of weeks (well, I was 3/5 a couple of weeks ago)...also had a bloody show at 35+2 weeks, contractions since 35+5 (ish, I think) and I'm still here!

I don't think it makes a huge amount of difference - I was told subsequent babies can engage and then pop right back out again so not to think too much of it.

Ive been3/5 enagaged since 34 weeks up until 39 weeks where i was 2/5 and then this week back to 3/5
not sure if its a sign of baby coming early , not true for me as im 5 days over due now and i have heard that they can un-gage

I'm 36 weeks with my second baby and my midwife told me at my appointment this morning that the head was 4/5 engaged too - and she also had a good rummage around to confirm it. I was surprised as I had thought it wouldn't engage until labour, and I think she was a little surprised too, but she said it does happen. Sometimes they pop out again with second babies but when I asked this morning I was told it was unlikely. Now the head is down there, it will probably stay down there till the big day. She didn't seem to think it was a sign that things were imminent though, other than to confirm that the painful braxton hicks I've been having in the night a few times this week were probably to do with baby getting low and maybe starting to work on the cervix a bit.

Who knows? At least after 34 weeks you're through the most crucial stages if things were to happen a bit early. As from today we can even birth at home. I hope this munchkin stays put until after christmas dinner though... ;)
