Hi everyone.

My 4mo girl has started to drink a lot less than she used to. Its always been slightly up and down but she usually would take at least 5oz every 3 hours. She was a big baby at birth, 9lb, and at her last weigh in a week ago was 17lb 12oz. The last 3 days she has started to eat maybe 3oz per feed and will go a lot longer before she's ready for more. She comes off the bottle and cries when you try and have her take more or she plays with or chews the teat. I had started her on a tiny bit of rice as she had been showing signs of being ready, literally just a weaning spoon full, so I don't know if that's affected her funny? She's also had a slight cold and I think she's teething too (red cheeks, chewing fist, drooling, irritable) also we've recently put her up to size 3 teats (tommee tippee) as she was falling asleep on the bottle and taking ages to feed. Could it just be a phase? Is there anyone with any advice please?

It could just be a phase. The only things i can think of is teething, my lg struggles with her bottles when teething as hurts her gums. maybe try calpol/teething gel? OR maybe silent reflux, you mention shes never been a great milk drinker. Silent reflux is where acid comes up to the throat and causes a burning pain which can make them refuse feeds x

The only way I can get my daughter to eat is to cuddle and have her really calm and half asleep. Otherwise she just screams and pushes the bottle away.

snap! chewing and sucking fists, bonjela needed some days, and up to stage 3 teats as collapsing the stage 2 and sucking so hard giving him more wind.

also reducing formula intake and then feeding sometimes 2 hourly instead of 3

also biting the teat as well.

thinking of starting to intro puree's between 12/16 weeks - i know way earlier than the new 6month recommended age and also earlier than the old 4months, but he's showing all bar one of the signs of being ready already, and my big sis weaned her last (of 4!!) onto to purees at 12 weeks, just kept her at stage 1 of weaning for a that little bit longer so solids not introduced until correct age - if that makes sense?!?!

wonder if the baby rice intro did have an effect? x
