Hi

For the past 2 months my DD has started this tic where she clears her throat loudly and then says yes!. She does it repeatedly one after another through out the day. I'm not just talking about once it's constant.
We have been ignoring as best as we can. When we have guests they keep asking if she needs some water.
Driving us bonkers  we have spoken about it and she says she can't help it. She's happy and confident in herself just not sure what to do.
Any ideas?

I'd just keep ignoring. It's quite common. I remember at 6 I had numerous tics that had been maintained and made worse by people's reaction to them, like insisting I must have a cold because I sniffed or telling me off for doing it. I remember how embarrassing that felt and how focusing on them made them so much worse. I still have the same tics when I'm stressed or reminded about them.

If ignored and accepted there's normally a much better outcome and they get grown out of

I also had tics when I was younger. I think it was an anxiety thing as it helped my nerves in some way. I would just ignore them. I know that whenever attention was drawn to mine it would make them worse. The more I tried to stop it the more I would do it!

My son (age 5) has a couple of tics that have come and gone in the past 6 months.
He either rolls his eyes to the side (sometimes his whole head too) or he scrunches up his nose like he's trying to stop it itching.
Best thing is to totally ignore it and not mention it.
He did go through a stage maybe a year ago of repeatedly clearing his throat which looking back I think may have been a tic too.
I remember having a tic where I'd scrunch my nose up. It went on for ages. I just had to do it and I didn't feel right if I didn't.
