Hi there,

I'm 44 and ttc #1. Hubby has three children from a previous marriage but we would like to have one of our own.

We've been trying ever since I moved to the U.S from England in August 2013 without success!!

I was on a birth control pill called 'femodene' from aged 18 to 38 and then the doctor put me on 'cerazette' which I took for a few years. I stopped taken it just before I moved over here. My monthly's have been all over the place since coming off it.

I really should have gone to see the doctor after not successfully conceiving after a year. But due to not having health insurance we couldn't afford it. During the few years without insurance I was having chronic pain. I was rushed to ER and was diagnosed with having gallstones. We couldn't afford the surgery at that time so I had to wait. Thankfully in December 2015 we managed to get health insurance. In January I had my gallbladder removed.

It's only just now that I have been able to seek the advice of a obgyn. So yesterday I had my appointment. She was really kind and helpful and said that she would do all she could to find out why I'm having trouble ttc. So I had some bloods taken, one an hcg and the other for prolactin. I received the results this morning, hcg was negative and my prolactin level was 6.3 ng/ml. I really don't know what the prolactin level means. Maybe someone could kindly let me know. I did also have my thyroid checked and that was within the normal range.

Next week I'm having a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound. Then she's going to refer me to a reproductive endocrinologist.

I know some peeps will think I'm too old to try for a baby, and that's their opinion. But until I am told that I can't then I am going to do all I can to make this happen...:dust:

Hi Naddy

Good on you its never over till the fat lady sings!! and hopefully it will be us fat ladies in a good few months!! I'm trying again myself I have one child from a previous relationship and my new partner (Love of my life) has no children, we decided to try not try not prevent over 12 months ago and it took about 8 months to conceive, but sadly we had a MMC at nearly 12 weeks.

All those tests you are having I have no idea what they are probably something to do with hormones, I think I seen something like that on my blood tests, I did get a check up a year ago just to see if everything was in working order!!

I was also on the pill for years they gave it out so freely in the UK (I'm a ex pat!! live in Ireland) when I think about all my younger years worried about getting pregnant and now at my age (43) that is all I'm wishing for!! are you charting and temping? and using OPK?? anytime you need to chat send me a message good look with the tests and keep us posted :) xx

Hey ladies are uou all taking any supplements for egg quality? Or any dietary changes.I feel you for sure..it even gets worse I hear after 42 but I say bah on those stats..I still have eggs..I just need to make a good one..beware of the re all my #s were good but he sort of acted like at my age most my eggs were bad..not putting much faith in changing quality. I think with with a positive attitude..mind over matter..a good diet and some supplements I can make one good egg and that is all I need..a voncerted effort to do so the next 90 days I am bound and determined :)

Hi CocoMomma

Thanks for the info I did cut the bad stuff out of my diet but any recommendation on supplements is a help!! I'm sick of hearing about bad eggs its driving me nuts!! as my GP said to me I'm a healthy 43 year old woman with no underlying medical conditions, but I cant seem to catch a break MMC in January and so far I'm sick of seeing AF!! body pretty well went back to normal and last month I was almost sure I was heading down the pregnancy path until AF arrived :( feel a bit deflated as I just AF yesterday!! charting and temping any advice will help :) might buddy up and give it a few months off to get more healthier to conceive xx

Hi there, firstly I am sorry to hear that you lost your bean at 12 weeks, that must have been awful for you both. Your right, its not over until the fat lady sings  It's just so disheartening when your so desperate to be a mum and all these obstacles are in the way.

Yes my doctor in the U.K was adamant that I took birth control even though I wasn't sexually active. My first sexual experience was through rape and I became pregnant  I now regret having it aborted because now I can't get pregnant.

I did buy some opk's, but due to me being so irregular I'm not sure when to test. I was temping up until recently but my thermometer broke, so I've got to buy another one. I just wish I knew whether I was ovulating or not.

I'm not entirely sure what the prolactin test was for, but like you say it's probably to check my hormones. Maybe someone on here can enlighten me

Thanks for your response, I really do appreciate it my dear

Hi CocoMomma, the only thing I'm taking is geritol (multivitamin) Your so right, having a positive attitude helps but when a month passes and you don't get that bfp and af shows up, your heart sinks. What supplements would you suggest taking at our age?

Hey ladies. I am taking ubiquinol. 25Mg dhea..only cuz the recommended 75 made my hair fall out..blue green algae, spirunilla,
Milk thistle, acai berry, fertility blend..I think that is everything lol.
I am also drinking a daily smoothie:
Almond milk. Whey protein powder
Flaxmeal.wheatgerm.wheatgrass powder. Pomegranate juice and pomegranate powder. Acaiberry powder.a lil cocoa powder. Organic frozen berry mix.
Then cut out coffee..switch to green tea with lemon..the lemon assist in absorption of the good stuff. Lemon water every morning first thing. Drinking a lot of green roobios tea as well. "Roobios can help prevent dna damage and inflammation..constant psychological stress could increase free radicals- roobios can reverse many of the physical negative effectscof stress"
It is suchva catch 22 this ttc is so stressful..causing us go make bad eggs causing one to not get pregnant month after month and it is such a letdown. That is why seemingly counterintuitively at 43.4..I am taking a 3 month break then trying. Just taking care of myself and not being ttc stressed I really think will help. I just hear too many people get pregnant as soon as they give up..I think stress could really be the #1 fertility buster snd those of us over 40 feeling like it has got to happen NOW..are the most stressed of all.

I really believe you've hit the nail on the head when you mentioned stress being the major factor in ttc!! Then again it's really hard not to stress when your aware that the clock is ticking and there's only so much time left. I do hope your three month break makes you feel better mentally, emotionally and physically my dear. You certainly are trying your best with all the things your taking, must be costing you a fortune.

I think the issue that's causing me the most worry is why my periods are so irregular. No periods means something's wrong! I am now over a week late and AF doesn't appear to be on the horizon. Just wish I could get my cycles back so I knew where I stood.

Do you think CM is a good way to determine whether your ovulating or not?

Well I've just returned from my transabdominal & transvaginal ultrasound. I was a little worried about having it done, but all in all it was quick and painless. The sonographer was really sweet, made me feel very comfortable. She didn't mention anything on what she saw. Said I will hear from my obgyn if there are any issues. So the waiting begins  Being the age I am and due to having irregular cycles (CD50) I'm sure something will show up on the results, just hoping & praying it's good news.

Prolactin is a hormone that helps in milk production. If it were too high, it could interfere with cycles (just like breastfeeding does). If I remember the numbers correctly, your level seems fine, however. Good luck!!!

I'm 41. I have 2 grown DDs, but I remarried in Apr 2014 and started TTC right away since DH is childless. After 6 months, I was diagnosed with extremely low AMH. I've done the clomid thing and one cycle of injectables with IUI. I've gotten 2 BFPs (within the last year). The first was ectopic and the second was a MMC at 9 weeks. I actually had to take a pill to complete the loss process on the day after my 41st birthday.

I've been taking multiple vitamin supps for many months (D, E, B, and Omega 3-6-9). Two months ago, I added DHEA, Maca, and Ubiquinol to the supp list.

GL to you ladies!
