Hiya

I'm a bit confused didn't know if anyone can help.

I just had my first appt with my doctor - she was surprisingly helpful and has given me paperwork for a 5 and 21 day bloods and DH for his SA.

Is the 21 day blood test dependent on the length of your cycle? i.e. done 7 days before :witch: comes? Just trying to work it out as my 21st day falls on weekends for the next 2 months then the third month we are in bloody France so i'm not doing very well!! I have a 27 day cycle so thinking that CD20 might be okay?

Has anyone else had this?

Thanks in advance

From my experience, the blood test are depending on length of your cycle. As long as when you book your blood test, you tell them what day you are on, they will just put a note on there. I started my tests with Day 21 but because the length of my cycle is longer, moved to Day 28.

Day 20 sounds perfect for you.

I had day 21 bloods done and I have a 26/27 day cycle. My GP felt that day 21 would still be best and said that once the consultant got the information, if he/she felt that they needed different bloods from different days, they would organise it themselves. I also had bloods taken on cycle day 3, but that was organised by the fertility specialist that will be doing my IVF treatment. From what I can understand, if it takes longer than a year to start treatment, the bloods and SA need to be done again anyway, so don't worry if you're a day or two out.

Good luck hun

If you have irregular cycles then they can do it every 7 days until AF comes. So, on CD21. Then, if no period by CD28 have another one then. And, CD35. And, so on...

This is the only way to get an accurate result, I was told today.

I had both of these bloods done a while back. My cycle ranges from 24-27 days but my GP (wasn't seeing a specialist at that point) still wanted me to go in on day 21...he didn't know much though! My progesterone level came back at just over 21 and while that is normal, its not really high. My specialist then told me that it would've been higher had I gone in on day 18-20.

So I guess to get a more accurate reading, going in on day 20 would be better.

Best of luck to you

Not sure if anyone else has answered this - but the day 21 test shoudl be done seven days after ovulation - which woudl work out at day 20 for you if you have a 27 day cycle..

i used OPK's for the month that I was going for my day21 tests just to make sure as I can fluctuate beteen a 27 and 30 day cycle - and wanted to be as accurate as possible - cos the progesterone decreases rapidly after day seven post OV - and you dont want your results to be distorted.

I hope all the tests go well.

I too have just started this part of my journey. I saw the doc on Monday and was on cd22 (10dpo) of a 25-30 day cycle. I was referred for 21 day blood tests that day.
Don't know if this was just because I was there that day and it may give the doctor some idea or if it is exactly right especially after what Bx's and FJL have said.

Thanks guys - i rang the pathology lab and explained to him that this month day 21 was on a Sunday and next month it's on a saturday. So he said to come in as close to as possible and if there are problems i'll just re-do it the month after. At least the day 5 one falls within the week.

I was taking a month off the OPKs/temps etc but i think that since i'm CD10 it might be wise to just check when i'm ovulating as last month was the first month it was 6 days late and that would throw the whole lot out of whack!

It's actually supposed to be 7 days before AF rather than 7dpo

but yes day 20 sounds about right, glad you got it sorted out Rosh :D (how are ya?!)
