My son is 5, almost 6 actually, and still throws tantrums about everything from going to the store with me, to cleaning up his toys, to going to bed, getting dressed, making his bed, brushing his teeth, etc. We do timeouts and if he throws a tantrum, or he loses TV privileges the next day. We also use a star system, he can get a star for good behavior or lose one for bad behavior. When he gets 10 stars, he can choose a prize (I keep a supply of dollar store prizes in a box). Still, he throws several tantrums a day. Isn't he too old for constant tantrums?

I would say that with few exceptions no child is 'too old' to be doing anything, they're all different little bundles of chaos bless them.
My son is 6 and a half, and still has the occaisional tantrum, sounds to me like you're doing everything I would and more, basically I just ignore him :) I'm sure like all things it will pass. I know it can be stressful though, especially if you're outside, persevere! xx
