My LO is 7 months. Everytime I give her solids for a couple days in a row she gets constipated real bad. We are TW. I am not giving her anything extravagant, maybe a few spoons of green beans, or squash. I don't do rice/oatmeal cereal.

Well, everytime she gets constipated I stop giving her solids. Even though she has pooped I haven't given solids in 2 weeks.

Is that okay? I don't know if I should be still trying, or is breast milk going to be enough until we can figure her digestion issues out? We go to the doctor tomorrow to make sure she still isn't backed up.

No harm in not regularly eating solids at 7 months.

"Food before 1 is just for fun!", as they rightly say :)

I had the same problem and just waited it out and she's doing great now. Around the 8.5 month old point is when she really started to want to eat solids. Nothing wrong with waiting if she seems perfectly happy with just milk. It has more calories than beans and sweet potato, that's for sure. :)

My mum told me that me and siblings didnt want solids until 8 months plus.

We're all pretty healthy!

My daughter didn't wean onto solids until she was 14 months; her choice, not mine. The idea that your baby will get additional allergies through not having been given foods at a certain age, and the idea that your baby will be a fussy eater, in MY experience, is ridiculous. She is 17m now, so has been eating for 3m and she has a bigger appetite than my 3yr old, and loves everything we've given her, except raw onions (and I don't blame her for that). As long as their weight isn't decreasing, and they're growing along their percentile then they're okay waiting a bit longer

My baby got constipated too. But I pushed through with solids, she'll need food eventually and I think stopping/starting might make it harder on her system. yOU can offer lots of water or smalls bits of diluted juice to help with the constipation. Or pureed peaches, prunes or pears.

I think it's fine. We did baby led weaning and she didn't eat much at all until 10 or 11 months. Look up the starting solids advice on Kellymom, I think it makes a lot of sense. No issues with starting slowly and especially if it's causing her a problem.

DS has only had solids once at 8.5/9 months old. He's about 10.5 months old now and we plan to delay solids until around his first birthday. He is breast fed on demand and is very healthy.

You could try fruit or sweet potato or carrot. I still haven't given my LO green beans as these are known to be hard to digest. I started my LO on carrot and Pear puree ( separately) and then tried a few new things after a week or so (like apple and sweet potato, also known to be very gentle on the tummy) and anything that gave him upset tummy or issues like constipation i avoided and tried a few weeks later. We've had issues so far with banana and cauliflower. He eats most things now so may just be that LO needs to try gentler solids to start with. Although, I have only just started being more serious about solids as LO seems to want them now but I still BF on demand also.

Good luck!!

That's a new one for me! All I've been hearing is that babies can get allergies if food is introduced too early (usually before 6 months). Does it go both ways then?

Is your baby not interested in food? It would we hard to eat around Violet without sharing! Also, be sure you're not confusing constipation with simply pooping less.

My mom exclusively breast fed both my sister and I until we hit a year and we were both chunks!

Thanks ladies. You guys are always such a big help/relief

@sarabear No, I wish it was just pooping less, but its constipation. She screams in pain trying to pass it. and when it does its so hard I feel horrible. She is very interested in food, so we used to have dinner together, or I would feed her first then hubby and I would sit down to eat with her still in her high chair playing with a spoon. Now, I we have to take shifts eating LOL, usually me first then he eats during bed time routine.

We did end up going to the dr and she recomended 2oz of pear, apple, or prune juice a day until the poops soften up. or to use Miralax, I am not comfy giving LO juice, and OH isn't comfy giving her medicine. That doc wasn't our regular pediatrician, so we have an appt with our regular one tues to get her opinion. So until then we are gonna do the juice. And we were told not to slow down on the solids.

Darn, that's really too bad. Babies this age should be able to explore foods! I hope you find something that works for her.

Fortune Cooki yes that's what I was told; although there are certain foods that are worse than others I think.

My youngest had ebf for a lot longer than that and was fine and he blw himself. Which i think is the best way now and wish I had of done that with my oldest.
