:hi:

just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.
my daughter has a medical condition and is on and off different medications.
she started the med shes on 3weeks ago now and has gone from feeding in a normal routine to not wanting milk at all.
she used to have an 8oz bottle morning and night and two 4oz bottles in between.
im now lucky if i can get her to feed at all, shes squirming about all over the place and cries, yet will take diluted apple juice no problem.
i dont know what to do, she'll maybe take around 1oz-2oz and then thats it. im keeping her fluids up though and she is on solids as well but im worried because i know they need around 24oz of milk a day at this age and she is now getting nowhere near that amount.
do some babies just go off milk?
i've been told to hang in there just now in the hope that things settle down but it's still worrying me.
any help would be great

Hi hun. My LO is the same. Did u try mixing formula with solids? at 6+ mnths anything around 18-21 oz is fine. Mine only managed 15 oz today, but I gave him some yoghurt & custard to make up for the dropped ozs.

She isnt even having 10 anymore, its worrying me a lot.
I dont put milk in her solids because she gets her meds mixed in with her solids
She gets cow's milk in her weetabix in the morning and a yogurt with lunch
She can afford to lose some weight after putting on a lot on a medication before but i dont want her losing too much. Already lost 5lbs. Do you think its just the meds? Or do some babies just not want it anymore?

U can replace cow milk with formula. Mine is not so keen to take his bottles. If she's more mobile now she would loose some weight, which is normal. U can have a talk with her Dr. & get some advise. Do u give her water? u can replace water with formula. Keep an oz in a sippy cup & try to give it to her within 1 hr. Or if u give her warm formula try to give it at room temperature or flavor it with some fruits she like & give it to her as a milk shake. It's trial & error. :hugs:

thanks for the help.
shes not active tbh because of her condition her development is way behind.
I will replace the cows milk with formula.
She wont take water, only water with some apple juice in it.
She wont even take any formula at times. She takes some in the morning and then the rest of the day is a nightmare trying to force feed her
Her doc says these mades can make her go off her food and as long as she gets her milk- but i dont get that, she'll take the solids no problem, no milk and lots of apple

Have you tried putting her formula in the sippy cup? Sometimes Dylan doesn't want to suck on the bottle (teething I think!), but will happily drink it from that.

Have you tried changing the temperature of the formula? As it's warm she might prefer it cooler, or if she has some phlem or just feels poorly she might prefer it warmer.

Yeah she wont take a plastic sippy cup, the one she takes apple juice from has a teat. I thought she wouldnt take the plastic one because of teething
I have also tried the milk warm, luke warm and cool. She doesnt seem to want it whatever way
Thanks

Megan's been fighting me about her milk the past 3 months or so. Teething makes it worse - but she just could really care less about formula most of the time. If she does have a day with more than 20oz its cause she's having night feeds. The past 2 days she's only had 12 oz but she is getting her 2nd tooth. Before this 2nd tooth starting bothering her she was closer to 15-18oz a day- but I offer often & never offer water - I figure if she's drinking water thats less milk that she will take. This includes her sippy cups. I add formula to her cereal - and give her cereal at each meal so that she is getting that added formula.

I offer her a soft spouted sippycup at every meal - sometimes she drinks some - sometimes she doesnt.

For a while Megan would only take a bottle when she was sleepy - so right before naps & before bed & during the night. I agree that its trial & error. You should talk to your dr - as you say your lo is on meds. See if they think this would affect. You say you cant add formula to solids cause meds are in solids .... why cant you add formula & meds? Is this what the dr said?

I'm having to give her apple juice now because she wont take anything else. I don't feel it fills her up, just keeps her hydrated.
I just wasnt adding the formula to the solids because i have to make sure she has the full amount of meds and with things that have more liquid in its harder to do as i need to put a certain amount in each spoonful  hope that makes sense
