My daughter is ebf, & we started traditional weaning the day before she turned 6 months old (so DH could be there for her first solids).

She's now 7 months 1 week, & has tried a few different foods. She loves apples & pears, custard & yoghurt. She really isn't keen on veggies, she seems to have a really sweet tooth, which I know is normal for babies. I'm worried she'll be fussy if she doesn't eat savoury foods now. She does eat Heinz cheesy veggie pasta, & had a few spoonfuls of a jar of sweet potato & beef. I've tried carrots, parsnip, banana - none of which she ate a lot of.

Can anyone help me? I have been giving her the Heinz stuff so that she has some savoury, but I would prefer homemade. Thinking of trying scrambled egg tomorrow for breakfast instead of her usual banana & peach porridge, but I would've thought egg would be a strong taste?

What do your 7 months old eat?

When my LO was 7 months I used to just purée a load of different veg and keep in the freezer and mix together sometimes with cheese sometimes not!

We used to do roasted veg which he loved (and smelled delicious) roasted courgette, pepper, cherry tomatoes, onions mushrooms, whatever we had really - roasted and blended it up together.

He also had things like eggplant puree, pea, cauliflower, brocolli, carrot, pumpkin, sweet potato, mashed potato etc. Often when blending I used to add his milk for familiarity!

I also used to blend our leftovers up if they were baby friendly (stews, tagine, roast dinner etc)

He didn't used to eat a lot and at 7 months I didn't worry too much as he would always replace with milk. It's when they become spoon refusers the fun starts!

Could you try mixing a veg with a fruit she loves, and put less and less fruit in every time. Such as pear and pea. I know it sounds disgusting to us but babies don't know and it may just get her used to the bitterness of veg gently.

You can try mixing fruit with veg but tbh I really wouldn't worry. My lo didn't like veg much and preferred fruit but now will pretty much eat anything! At 7 months milk should still be providing all the nutrients needed.

You could try adding cheese to the scrambled egg as this is how I got my LO to take it. I also make her things like salmon and broccoli, tuna pasta bake, chicken with sweet potato and apple all puréed but not too much so as I want her to get used to lumps and different textures. I have disguised savoury food by adding a bit of fruit on the tip of the spoon as well. And sometimes she dislikes a certain vegetable/meat combo only to eat it heartily a week later! She's not great with finger foods just yet because she just plays with it but I keep offering. Good luck!

What about cauliflower cheese, my lo loved this as it just tasted of cheese really, it's easy to make too.

My 7 month old ate anything so I'm not much help. I do tw but started finger foods from six months along with puree, so he was fine with texture from then. So at seven months he'd have finger foods like broccoli or pear, fish etc or pouches from plums or Ella's kitchen or homemade food from the Annabel karmel weaning book.

At 7 months, you shouldn't worry too much about solids. In fact, you are giving her some good options. Don't worry if she is eating or not, or not liking certain food. She just needs to explore variety of food at this time. Just keep offering!
