My 8 week old is in love with the shelves behind my sofa so much so that he smiles and gurgles at them all the time.......he does smile at me too but I often have to block his view or turn him away from them when we're on the sofa so he'll focus on me, but even then he'll look around to look at other things like lamps or beams etc which he seems to prefer looking at than looking at me! Is this normal????!!!!

I have read somewhere that it is quite common for boys especially to be more interested in 'things' rather than people, but saying that around his age they like to look at lights and moving things...so could be that.

Don't worry he will grow quickly and soon enough only have eyes for you :D

I have found with Chase, he won't look at me too much if he's sitting with me. But if he's sitting with daddy, or in his bouncer, etc. he stares at me. LOL

So we go through this too. Daddy wants time with him but he won't look at him, but will if he's in my arms.

One other thing, they are learning about the environment and do love to stare at shiny things, lights, etc.

Callum did this too for a while, he wouldnt look at me at all. It was just everything around me!! But one day he just looked at me properly and that was it, he wont take his eyes off me now!! xxx

I remember Aaron doing that and feeling a little bit upset by it! Like Whisper says, I've read that boys are often more interested in things while girls are more interested in people. And just like Leanne said, he would never look at the person holding him but always the other person. So I think it's a boy thing, I'm sure he'll be giving you beaming smiles all the time when he's a bit older. :hugs:

Kathryn still loves to have conversations with the bookshelf in our room

I'm glad he's not the only one then........ It is a bit upsetting seeing as we spend pretty much 100% of our time together and yet I don't seem to mean much more to him than the shelves or other people! Hopefully things will change as he gets older!
