Boys are starting to eat food food and just trying to think what I can give them that ISNT $5 a pack baby food just because its baby food if you know what I mean...I make their babyfood...salt free veggies...juice packed fruits...water packed chicken...I puree and freeze in ice cubes..so far real food wise (that they have to actually chew/gum lol) has been banana...livermush (we live in the south and its been a fav of mine since I was their age lol) cooked carrots...udon noodles and chicken vienna sausages (because unlike hotdog they are softer and have no skin)....

any other creative ideas?

Cooked pasta is good for them to hold and eat :)
Any fruit and vegetables too, broccoli is a favourite here because of the texture.
Rio has toast with all sorts of things spread over (fruit purée, soft cheese, peanut butter etc)
Meatballs are quite easy for them to hold and eat also..
Umm, for some reason I have gone brain dead and can't think of any food at all lol.

We did BLW at they both started eating at around 8mo, but both mine loved:

Avocado, Hummus, or Nut butters on rice cake
Roasted sweet potato
Rice or congee (with chicken)
Oatmeal
Healthy pancakes (I made them then reheated in the toaster)
Applesauce
Berries
Pasta (rotini) with bolognese sauce
Smoothies
Turkey Meatballs

Once they were a bit older (maybe 10-12mo), they loved dipping so I would make strips of pancake with fruit for dips, hummus and veg, etc

all mine have just eaten the family meal from being about 6m. example my 8m old tonight had 1 pork sausage cut into chunks, roasted pepper, mushrooms and tomatoes , salad and garlic bread. pudding was trifle which I spoon fed lol.

whatever we're having they all have. Makes life simpler and cheaper.

My 7.5 month old has what we have. Some faves are...

Spaghetti bolognaise (I cut her spaghetti so it's maybe an inch long)
Salmon with pasta and veggies (peas/carrots/sweetcorn)
Chicken breast in tomato arribata sauce with rice or pasta and veg
Mince and potatoes
Slow cooked Beef stew with boiled potatoes, onion and mushroom
Tortilla pizzas with various toppings
Macaroni cheese

Basically everything. She is a gannet and eats everything (other than eggs)
I just put it on her high chair tray and let her at it (she makes surprisingly little mess!)

Almost anything they've had in puree form, you can offer in chunks, so long as you make sure it's cooked soft enough to gum.

Baked sweet potato
Cantaloupe
Pasta

One tip I came across was to take some minestrone soup, strain out the broth and give the rest to them. I like to make my own, so that's what I'd give, rather than opening up a can (less sodium and preservatives that way, too.).

I actually wouldn't have thought of vienna sausages. Mine's starting to get into this stage, too, so I'll keep that in mind.

I would just get stuck in with normal food. I did too much faffing with DD1 and she's so bloody picky at eating. DD2 I was having none of it and I just fed her what we were eating and it's been so much easier! Saves you time making separate meals too.

Also, start introducing seasonings you commonly use in your own cooking, so that they're used to those flavors and will be less likely to refuse meals.

oh anndd....well the boys are content to let me feed them..which I have been doing...just to get them used to the textures first off...Im sick and have no nurse for B today or yesterday and so too busy to let them take their time because I have her to worry about as well...but what do you do when they just wont pick it up on their own? I never had this problem with B by the time she was the boys age she was picking up stuff and eating gerber puffys and all that but the boys just dont seem to care lol... they will hold their own sippy cups but otherwise they are lazy..and suggestions for getting them over that?

The best way to get them eating finger foods on their own is to take the time to let them do it. If you're sick and can't right now, just keep doing what you're doing for a bit until you're better, but once you do have time, just give them some food and let them do it. It won't happen overnight and it may take weeks or even a couple months until they get the hang of it, but you have to just sit back and be patient. They have to completely re-learn how to eat in order to feed themselves so it will take time. That said, it also gives YOU time to do things you need to do. When my daughter has lunch, it means I get to eat my lunch too, or clean up the kitchen, or start dinner or whatever because I don't waste time feeding her. If they've been used to pureed or mashed food, you might try offering them some of that in a bowl. Soups (blended or with small chunks of veg, beans, meat), yogurt or porridge (oatmeal) also work great. They can just dip their hands in and lick it off their fingers or scoop it into their mouths. You might also try giving them a spoon and seeing if they can dip it in themselves. You might be surprised that they can!
