Hi, my daughter is 9 days old and always hungry! We are using aptamil 1st milk from the cartons as I had to switch from breastfeeding after 2 days as I was producing hardly anything. She came home from the hospital a week ago today and we made up her feeds according to the instructions on the pack which say that a baby of her weight (she was 8lbs 9 1/2oz born) should be taking 4oz five times a day. She is already taking 4oz six times a day,but is never satisfied and keeps looking for more. Surely 5oz is too much to be feeding a 9 day old baby? The pack says that 5oz is for 10 1/2pounders or 4-8weekers... I am going to look at the aptamil hungry baby formula today to see what that pack says as I don't want to be overfeeding her. Does anyone have any experience with this or any advice for me please? Or do I just have one greedy baby?!!!

Heya! Congratulations on your new baby.

I would defo ignore the guidelines on the pack! They are very outdated and most babies will eat every 2-4 hours, not every 4 hours. Especially for a very young baby feeding every 2-3 hours is alot more usual as their tummies are so small, they need to eat little and often.

I wouldnt up the amount of oz, but maybe try offering a bottle every 3 hours (or more frequently if your baby is hungry sooner), so 8+ feeds a day. You may find that your baby reverts back to taking less milk but will be more satified with the more frequent feeding. xxx

Not sure if it's the same but I bf my LO until he was 2weeks old and he had a stage between 7-10days old where he fed every hour he just never seemed full so I mentioned it to midwife and she said he was having a growth spurt and I think she was right because he went from 8lb 2oz on day 5 to 8lb11oz on day10 so he definitely had some sort of spurt lol if she has been like it all the time tho I would definitely consider putting her onto the aptimil hungry milk x

They have lots of growth spurts (pretty constant!) whilst they are young hun, just feed when your little one wants it, you will know if she is having too much as she will bring alot up x

ETA my LO is still feeding every 1.5 - 2 hours throughout the day xx
