Hi all
I just wanted to help reassure anyone who is waiting to get an HSG and is nervous. I had to wait 4 months (which I think did not help my nerves)! I tried to keep busy the night before but started to panic. When I walked through the hospital doors I contemplated turning on my heels because I was so scared! I have a very low pain threshold and I am a complete wuss!
The nurse and radiographer were lovely. I walked in ans started crying saying I was terrified and they were very supportive and answered all my questions. I am very small and retroverted and gynaes rarely get a speculum in on the first attempt so I was hesitant from the beginning.
She said that she has only had to use a balloon once and she doesn't clamp the cervix. The speculum went in easy enough and than I fel a slight burning for a second (I am not sure if it was the catheter or just the end of the speculum). Then she got the nurse to take about half a dozen images. The whole thing was done on less than 2 minutes.
I didn't feel the dye go in at all! I felt the slightest pressure against my lower back but that was only because I was concentrating on trying to feel what was going on!
I did take ibrufen about an hour before. I have very slight cramps for the next two days and some spotting.
My tubes were clear and the dye was going all over the place apparently!
Good luck for everyone else getting it done, for me it really wasn't bad at all, it was the fear that was bad!!
