Okay for as long as I can remember in this pregnancy I've had a lot of excess CM but I noticed last night that it now no longer has a smell to it?

Been listening to baby with doppler and heartrate is still there and strong but still I'm a bit worried. Why would it suddenly stop smelling like normal CM?

Update: Update, all is fine :D just had a speculum test and a swab and there's no fluids. Just lots of CM that gushes and panics me for nothing haha. They also measured my bump and listened to the heartbeat both for the first time (ive got a doppler so have heard the heartbeat many times!)

At least I'm relaxed now even if the swab and painful speculum were for nothing :D

If you were leaking waters it would have a very distinctive smell, so the fact that it has no smell to it is a good thing. Maybe just a change in pH or something? Pregnancy CM can be very strange! Try not to worry, although I know that's easier said than done :)

I read that waters had no smell which is why I was worrying! Though I suppose you'd know with 3 kids! :p

Thank you :)

Waters definitely have a smell - I ended up in triage this weekend and this was something the midwives were keen to stress.

If you are concerned I would put a pad in to soak up anything coming out and give your midwife a call. They will be able to ask the right questions and get you in if it sounds serious. They can then analyse any fluid in the pad.

My waters have been leaking for 5 weeks and have a really distinctive smell. But have heard of another lady on here in a similar situation whose have no smell at all. I guess everyone is different. Get checked if you're worried, better safe :)

I've heard it can have a smell or none, so wear a pad and get it checked out, you don't want to leave it too late if it's something and if it's nothing you won't worry :)

My CM smell is back!

Never been so glad for the smell of my own CM o_O

My leaking waters with dd2 didn't smell of anything. It's very hard to distinguish between watery cm and amniotic fluid. The only real way to be sure is a scan where they measure the depths of the pockets of fluid.

It's provably nothing to worry about, but I ignored mine for weeks. Waters replenish themselves every four hours and quite often go back up as mine eventually did.

Call your midwife for advice honey :flower:

If you are really concerned, you can go to the hospital maternity ward. They can swab your pad or liner with a test stick which will change colour if there is amniotic fluid present.

It's weird it's like I feel a small gush and the stuff from the gush doesn't smell like my normal fluids. But it's not much at all. I just assumed until now it was a gush of CM.

What does amniotic fluid look like? It looks clear unless I get a lot of it on my finger and then it can look cloudy. Will ring midwife tomorrow.

Amniotic fluid is usually clear. It was the odd trickle with me. Your cm does increase in volume during pregnancy which can make it harder to tell what's what but it's worth contacting the midwife.

If you're feeling gushes definitely get it checked out! My water broke at 20 weeks and I've been gushing and leaking since and I'm 24 weeks. My fluid has no distinct smell so don't go by that!!

Erm I feel these gushes maybe every hour or every two hours! Do you think I'm okay to wait til morning? Considering the amount is tiny? Or should I ring delivery? They might just tell me to wait til morning

Honestly I would go now. I started feeling gushes at 20+3 and went to my dr and he said it was probably just normal discharge. I kept having the gushes though so I eventually went to the ER at 21+1 and they had confirmed that my water broke and I had NO fluid left by that point.

My gushes were tiny also, maybe about a teaspoon or two every hour or two.

I rang up they said to put on a pad and if it's wet in an hour to ring back.

How are you getting on? I was told the same and my pad wasn't wet. I went anyway and midwife said I had probably wet myself but my swab tested positive for fluid. This was 5 and bit weeks ago. I can go long times without a loss and then have a gush, and now at 31 and half weeks its a wet your clothes and wherever you're sitting type gush :'( The good thing is its always clear, pink or red indicates blood and brown or green can be because baby is stressed and has done a poo. As soon as I tested positive I was given antibiotics and steroids and have twice weekly bloods, once weekly lab tested urine samples and weekly swabs. Baby is also monitored twice weekly for movements and heartbeat and we go for fluid and growth scans once a week. He's doing great.

I'm hoping it's normal pregnancy discharge for you but wanted to share to give others hope that it doesn't mean it's all over if your water breaks, you just have to be extra careful.

My pad wasn't wet after an hour, I didn't feel a gush in that hour though. Not sure if i should ring back :/

At the clinic now. She's made me drink 2 cups of tea with 5 sugars in each to try get baby to move as I mentioned I haven't felt her move much.. they seem to be concentrating on that though rather than the waters concerns! Frustrating on top of now feeling like I'm about to go into a diabetic coma!

Make them test the fluid!! Demand answers!!! I just set back and took people's word. Don't make that mistake like i did!
