I've got to go for a colposcopy as there were high amounts of abnormal cells.

I've had the app through and a few leaflets explaining the likely need to do a biopsy and treatment (lletz) under local anaesthetic.

They say that it 'only' stings, and the anaesthetic admin will be 'mildy uncomfortable'.... But (despite having 2 children!) I fainted having a coil put in do to my cervix being touched.

I just keep bursting in to tears thinking about this procedure, im terrified!

Has anyone been through this?

I had a colposcopy many moons ago (before the changed the age for the smear so I was only 22/3 lol).

From what I can remember it was about the same discomfort level as the smear but with a little less dignity as you have to go in one of those chairs with the leg holders lol. I remember they put a local anaesthetic in I think in injection but I can vaguely remember a spray too, and then they cut a small circle for the biopsy. I barely felt anything more than pressure. Then they put on silver nitrate to stop the bleeding, and I was allowed to go. I could see everything they were doing on a screen on the wall which was fascinating but it was scary to be there.

I had one on the 6th feb it wasn't bad the biopsy stung a little and I had a few niggly cramps after. I had a high amount of cells from my smear but the biopsy came back mild so I am having no treatment done for the meantime I will be back in a year for another smear and another colposcopy.

Thank you for your replies!..... I am quite intrigued to see my cervix on a screen :haha: But the fact that it 'only stings' is really upsetting me :(

Awe... been there hun! Many years ago, but it really wasn't a big deal. I mean, it wasn't "pleasant"- bit more uncomfortable than a pap, and a bit of a pinch when the biopsy was done.

AND - if it makes you feel better, like you, I too fainted when my IUD was placed (didn't think that really ever happened! as I was the ONLY one of my friends that did). But the colposcopy was nothing in comparison (like I'd do that several times in loo of another IUD placment!). Maybe it's just me, I've always been very sensitive down below. Granted, I didn't have any further treatment, so I cannot speak to that. I'd think with anaesthetic that would greatly help. I didn't have any since I only had the biopsy.

Hope all goes much better than you think hun! Take someone with for support. I did! :hugs:

Thanks seoj :hugs: i thought I was the only one too! My friend laughed at me when I said I'd fainted
I too am v sensitive down below but I've heard that the cervix is full of nerve endings, so can be quite sensitive! X

My friends prob would of laughed had I not said how traumatic it was! They also knew how nervous I was and felt bad they said it was "no biggie" ha!

It was honestly a very traumatic event for me! I was in a ton of pain- and cursing one minute- then within maybe a min after placement I fainted. I almost fainted again later when I stood up to get dressed!!! I even had the nurses running around looking for juice/snacks I could eat- and they kept me there after close and called my hubby to come get me!!! Yea... it was that bad :dohh: They even wheeled me out to hubbies car as they said I shouldn't drive yet.

NOT at all what I'd anticipated! Luckily, since then, I've had no issues! Even benefits! So yay. Although I won't go through that again! lol. My OB did say it's more common in woman that haven't had a vaginal birth.

Anywho- I do hope all goes well. And really do take someone you feel would be supportive along. Just having a hand to hold helps. I took my Mom- cause hey, she birthed me! But I'd of taken my best friend had my Mom not been able to go! We have no secrets! :winkwink:

Big hugs!

Sometimes ignorance is bliss!.... I wish i was ignorant to this :/
Unfortunately, another reason im terrified is that i'll be going alone :(.... My oh works away and we only moved to the area a few months ago so don't know anyone well enough to ask :(

When is yours happening? Mine is coming up soon and I am also pretty terrified.

Hi Haus.

I had it 2 weeks ago :)

It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but still not pleasant. I'm pleased to say I didn't faint.... Although I went pretty pale and dizzy!
They did the colposcopy and then lletz were they cut the bad cells off with an electric burner type knife, under local anasthetic. The needle was the worst bit. And I certainly couldn't look at the screen!

2 weeks on and I've had on off cramping followed by very water, smelly discharge! It seems to have settled doen a bit but I'm still getting some spotting, but no cramping.
The cramps for a day afterwards were really painful... Similar to early labour! I'd recommend painkillers and a hotwater bottle xxx

Thanks!

I kinda want to look at the screen...I know lol. I was just preparing for a biopsy, hopefully it goes well. Not looking forward to it :nope:

Yeah I started looking at the screen but then the nurse could tell I was uncomfortable so she moved it out of my view lol!
Hope all goes well.... When is it? C

Mines supposed to be April 16th as long as my body co-operates and my cycle is over/hasn't started yet
