So I got a crunchy shrimp roll. So fried shrimp, and completely forgot the roe on top was raw fish eggs! Grr! You guys think ill be okay?
FYI. No nausea since, but I do have a headache now and I have yet to have a headache as a pregnancy symptom.

You'll be fine. It was just a small amount. The reason you're not supposed to eat raw food or excessive amounts of fish is because of contamination and mercury. With such a small amount, it's very, very unlikely you'd get sick. Try not to worry!

You will be fine. I've had sushi a couple of times, and plan to again in the next couple of days. The shrimp was fried, and the eggs arnt going to hurt (I talked to the waitress at my fav sushi place and they all ate it when preggers). Doctor also said it was fine :) enjoy and try not to stress.

Japanese women do not stop eating sushi when they are pregnant.

Thank you so much ladies!! You always make me feel better. :)
Monday is the big day for me. First US where I should see a HB. Had a MC in October, so really hoping this one sticks! Wish me luck!!

Sushi is made with fish that is frozen before use so it kills any harmful bugs. It's ok to eat as long as it's not made with fish that's fresh from the sea, which it hardly ever is.

I accidentally are soft cheese last week. Sure you'll be fine!

Aww man now I'm craving sushi hehehe. As long as you are getting it from a place that specializes in it and not say a convenience store (I've seen sushi there before...) I think the risk is tiny. But maybe have a California roll instead next time? They are made with imitation crab (cooked fish) so that may put your mind at ease. :hugs:

I eat sushi, had one roll yesterday, one today with raw salmon. Some fish have more mercury than others, salmon and shrimp are not part of those. The reason why health care providers suggest not to eat those is to cover their ass because there are no studies made on pregnant women. I had cold cuts, blue cheese and feta cheese in the last week and believe me, I will not miscarry because of those. My body is used to the above because I consume those on a regular basis. My boyfriend got sick from the cold cuts btw because he is not used to eating them, I am. As a health care provider in the field, I encourage you to take our recommendations and personalize them to yourself. For example, if you never eat sushi, do not start having it every day during pregnancy because it may affect you. Do not run a marathon if you were sedentary before being pregnant and so on. Recommendations are made for everyone:including people who get sick extremely easily. You know yourself best, do not let anyone tell you otherwise and remember you are you, not the general population.

Most of the food restrictions/recommendations made for pregnant women are made just in case. You're more likely to get bacteria in soft cheese, but the risk is still really low. However, they don't recommend you eat it just in case you happen to get the one batch with bacteria in in. Same goes for listeria in cold cuts. It's not likely, but just in case they don't want you eating it. I say eat everything in moderation (with the exception of alcohol, of course!), and try not to worry. It's not worth stressing yourself over.

Even alcohol in moderation is ok! In fact I read a study that showed women that drank moderately during pregnancy ended up having children with significantly less behavioral issues.

Show me the wine! Having rare steak tonight so might as well make a night of it.

It's fresh here, always is, so not always true.

I was always told the rice is more risk than the fish anyway, as listeria multiplies quickly in room temp rice.

Sushi sold in supermarkets here has to be made with frozen fish but in a restaurant it could be fresh. You wouldn't get listeria from the fish but I didn't realise you could get it from rice. Seems like it's everywhere! Although the risk from listeria is really really tiny, pregnant women are apparently twenty times more likely to contract it than the general population so it's well worth taking sensible precautions.

I believe the risk in sushi is the worms found in it. Even sushi grade fish has some, the sushi grade rating just means there are fewer than lower grade which is meant to be cooked.
