Does anyone else go to acupuncture to help with fertiliy? My GYN recommended it and I read a lot of articles about it so I started to go in the spring. Anyone else? Thoughts? Do you like it? Do you think it helps?

Hi there, didn't want to read and run. I am considering it but haven't found one near me. Will see if we don't get our BFP next cycle, might start in then.

I started it a few weeks ago, think I was about CD2 when I had my first proper session. My acupuncturist is very good and very honest. He's told me he'll do what he can for "general" fertility but without knowing the reason why we've not conceived, he can't target anything. He's been extremely honest in saying that he can't fix any fertility problems, he can only make my body more "friendly" for an embryo. He's urged me to go back to the doctor's and to ask for more tests. He's a former nurse so he's quite up on the Western medical stuff, too.

I won't lie, I find it very painful, but I'm giving it a go for a while. I'm mostly going for mental health reasons and I've slowly but surely found myself changing for the better.

I've been going since last April/May. I actually got pregnant soon after-late May- but we mc'ed in July. I just don't know if it is doing anything and like you said...it hurts! Also, the time and the money...I guess that is why I'm considering stopping. I just wish I had more proof that it was doing something. I honestly don't feel any different at all. I realy like the lady I see. And, it is very relaxing. And I did get pregnant in may, but there a lot of factors. Obviously I haven't stopped yet, since I saw her this morning (7doo). Just thought i'd see what others experiences were. Thanks, ladies.

That's really interesting that your gynecologist recommended it! I've been wanting to try it but since we're in the middle of testing (cd 3 bldwk on Monday and HyCoSy on Wednesday) I'm going to wait until we know where things are at.

I'd heard all these great things but never that it hurts, have you tried another acupuncturist Beantown Baby?

I've not tried another acupuncturist because I liked mine. I asked a few other friends who had tried acupuncture (they saw other clinicians) and we all agreed it hurts a bit. There are some places they insert the needles that don't hurt at all, like you shins, but when they put the needles in your wrists or ears, it stings a bit! It goes away, but you can feel it! Good luck and give it a try. It is one of those things that is cumulative, so just one visit won't amount to much.

Thanks for the tips and heads up! Acupuncture can be so sensationalized so it's nice to hear the nitty gritty.

I had acupuncture throughout my August cycle. I found it very relaxing (especially the moxa due to the warmth) but, whereas things I'd read said people often feel much more tired or energetic after a session, I didn't really feel any different after the session. Whether it was a coincidnece of not, I don't know, but that month (and since actaully) my pre-af spotting has been for fewer days and not as much.
The reason I stopped was partly because I was back off holidays (teaching) and I couldn't commit to certain times for sessions and also because OH still hasn't had SA done, so I felt I could be wasting my money if the problem doesn't ultimately lie with me.
I didn't find it painful on the whole; the needles in my tummy and back were the least painful, whereas I did not like those round my ankles, in my ears, or the one under my nose! The others didn't hurt as such, just stung a bit.
My acupuncturist was not a fertility specialist either, but there aren't really any locally.

I am always a bit skeptical of these things but I agreed to go around May time & I found that it was really relaxing & the chat that we had prior to any treatment always felt good to get the stresses and strains of TTC off my chest. This month is my first month on clomid & co-incidentally I found that I had an acu appt on CD1. The acupuncturist was very excited about this and said that she wanted to concentrate on giving me a good, healthy, heavy flow in preparation for the clomid. I have never had a period like it. I have only ever needed one sanitary towel a day before as my bleed is always light, this month I was bled through a towel the very next day. Now I am excited that not only is it changing my emotional state but it actually genuinely might help prepare my body for pregnancy.

Good luck to you all xxx

I also find that my sessions are like mini counselling sessions as well, which has really helped me. A large part of the reason I've started acupuncture is for anxiety problems and we talk about lifestyle and mindset changes as well as the acupuncture.

My cycle is definitely different this month, also I won't know for another week or so if it's helped with the spotting I usually have, or has helped me to conceive, etc.

I did it to help my pcos. I went for once a week for three months. I didn't see any fertility related results. But when I first started going it was because we had hit our two year mark. At the time I was experiencing some depression. I think the accupuncture really helped with that. Once I stopped I felt the depression start creeping back in.
