Hi ladies

I've brrn advised that after 6months a baby needs extra iron to continue proper development, but there is not enough in breast milk (formula fed babies are fine)

How is everyone planning to do this? I've read eggs are a good source of iron, so thinking scrambled eggs? Also fortified cereals....so maybr weetabix?

Advise anyone please?

A normal balanced diet should do it. It's a fallacy about the iron in formula compared to breastmilk. Formula has a higher iron content, but the iron in breastmilk is more bioavailable, so is absorbed better rather than going straight through. Anaemia is extremely uncommon in a breastfed baby.

There's some evidence and more information here.

Thank you Tacey for the link!
I wish more doctors would be educated regarding bf'ing and its benefits.
My babies doctor suggested starting my 4 month old on solids because she could develop anemia due to her being ebf. I'll print that page and leave it for him to read....

OP, Sorry for hijacking your thread :)
