does anybody add rice to their babies bedtime bottle to help them sleep better my mum says she swore by it with me and my sister although she used a rusk added to our bottles. i'd be a bit dubious about adding things tho

I don't know much about it but i know health professionals don't advise it xxx

i don't she sleeps right through. im just wondering if anyone does and whether it does work

I was told by a lot of people that it's not a good idea to add them to bottles as it can sometimes cause SID's. Reason being babies drink milk easily but to get rice/rusk through a teat is hard work and the sucking tires them out and they fall asleep quicker but are still hungry, unbeknown to you because you think that they are full and that's why they've gone to sleep. However like most things they say nowadays, people have done it in the past with no problems

No its NOT recomended by health visitors, chocking hazzard and it effects the concentration of formula which makes it really bad for babys gut, your health visitor will tell u this. Try feeding from a bowl and spoon if you are going to.

I wouldnt - at the least it will alter the make up of the formula. You may end up giving the baby too much of something eg. salt - not good.

Why dont you try a different formula? I dont FF so I cant advise but arent there 'hungry' or 'follow on' milks? Or you could try dream feeding before you go bed??

x

its not something im going to do as she doesn't need it, she sleeps right through. like i said my mum swore by it and i am just wondering if anyone does it and whether it does work for them

Nope don't add it to her bottles. But Hannah does have cereal before she goes to bed (about 3 tablespoons) and than a top up bottle at 10.

Sorry - I read it like you were thinking about doing it. :dohh:

There was a thread on here a few days ago asking the same thing - you might find someone who tried it on there if you search for it :)

Your LO is old enough to have rice cereal, I would just give her a bowl of cereal later in the evening.

Ta chick i think everyone has lol. Totally misunderstood post

Nope I didn't do it with DD and wont be doing it with Daisy.

My mother in law has given me some quite scary sounding things about feeding when she was bringing up her two!
One was the rusk in a bottle, the other was sugar and water between feeds!
Another was that she fed my OH on full fat cows milk from the age of 8 weeks instead of formula! ..... Say's she brought hers up the same way her mother brought her up...

OH and his sister are both fine but I wont be trying any of her tips!

the rusk in a bottle is what my mum did with me and my sister but i have never heard of sugar and water

I seem to remember my mum talking about rusks in bottles - I think its been common practice in the past.
