Adult tooth growing in crooked?

Thomas lost his first tooth about a week ago, his lower left front incisor. The adult tooth is part way through and super crooked! I'm really worried but there's not really room for it to be straight as it's a small space and he hasn't lost any other teeth there to make room.

Do I haul him off to a dentist or is this common?

Having worked in a primary school for a time, I've seen some pretty wacky adult teeth lol. They do often come in looking bizarre but as more come in and the jaw expands, it does improve. I don't think there's anything a dentist could do until he is old enough to have braces anyway?

Most adult teeth will straighten up once more baby teeth have fallen out and as the jaw gets bigger, if its just his first tooth to fall out the bigger tooth probably doesnt have enough room yet. I wouldnt worry at this stage and he doesnt need to see a dentist just yet it is very, very common for baby teeth to come through crooked.

I used to work as a dental nurse and would see this every day

Also, don't worry if the adult teeth look really yellow. They're not - they just have a different amount of enamel versus dentin than the pearlescent baby teeth and in comparison look like a polar bear on snow!

Thanks very much! I think if it hadn't been normal I would have wanted a chat with the dentist just to see what his future held. I haven't set foot in a dentists office since I was about Thomas's age so know nothing about teeth (have a bit of a teeth phobia going on, I don't know why).

That's interesting about it possibly being yellow, thanks for the heads up! I think he needs to see at least a dental hygienist anyway as I can see some plaque on his bottom teeth, he hates his teeth being brushed so it's a constant battle with us and I struggle to get a thorough job done 😞

Do you use an electric toothbrush? It pretty much does the job for you. We use one on LO - she hates having it done too - but the electric brush makes it much quicker and easier regardless.

Paiges bottom two teeth grew in at a ridiculously weird angle. They formed a V shape behind her baby teeth before they even fell out! I panicked, but sure enough they have completely straightened out and look absolutely fine now. Her top two teeth fell out recently and I am curious as to how she will look when her adult ones come in properly. Her teeth have always beem very close together so it amazes me that adult teeth will actually fit!

Haha, mine were always very close together too (still are) and somehow they all fitted until my wisdom teeth came in at 16 and pushed the front ones slightly out of line. As a result, I got my wisdom teeth removed and then had proper metal train track braces put on shortly after, when I was 25. Then I got pregnant. I must have looked such a weirdo!

The ortho who did them said my teeth were too big for my jaw lol. So maybe Paige will need braces when she's older - maybe not! I only had mine about a year.

I love it when kids get that gap on the top, it's amazing. :')

I dont think its uncommon for adults to get braces these days. They are definitely worth it! I didn't have them, but my sister did and what a difference they made! All of my girls have really big baby teeth, and dd2s are packed just as close as Paiges (dd3 not so much but they aren't all gappy, just one gap between her front top teeth)
Paige has her 6yr molars already and I struggle to reach them with the brush, no idea where any more teeth are going to go!

Horrendously expensive, but yes, definitely worth it for a nicer smile if you are as secretly vain as I am.

I think my kid will be in the same situation - her top teeth currently have gaps but her lower jaw is tiny and the teeth there are practically stuck together ...

Just an update! He has both of the lower front incisors and they arnt crooked. BUT, they are angled slightly in towards his tongue, which looks weird but they seem to slowly be coming forwards by themselves.

No he doesn't use an electric brush, I've tried one with him and he screams that it hurts. He had some work done with the dental hygenist and she's helped me with some teeth brushing tips
