Hi ladies, I looked to this section when I was scared with my 12 week nt scan and blood screening results so now that I am through it I figure maybe I can help someone else. My; ultrasound looked good but my blood screening revealed a risk of 1 in 31 for down syndrome. I already have a high risk pregnancy due to kidney disease and experienced two losses in a year so the idea of a cvs or amnio was scary with the risks associated. We found the perfect alternative for us as we could not bare another 6 months of "not knowing" There is a blood test available either called MaterniT21 or harmony. It examines the baby's blood that is circulating within the mother's blood and looks for trisomy 13, 18, and 21. It is a simple blood test from the mother, no risk and our results came back in exactly one week! Such a relief! I highly recommend it. I am not sure if it is available everywhere as it is pretty new to the market, I am in the U.S., but it wouldn't hurt to ask. It was covered by our insurance as well. Hope this helps someone as I know how scary this time can be xx

The Fetal Medicine Centre in London do this test, it was about £190 when I booked it last year as it was new, I'm hoping it still the same price if I get to 11 wk with this pregnancy x

Glad to hear it is available there
