Advice for visit to GP

Hi Ladies! DH & I have been TTC since Jan 2008 & are off to our new GP this afternoon to discuss what's taking us so long!

Wondered whether I should print out charts from FF to take with us or not? Also is there anything else we should take with us / expect to be asked about etc? Hope you can advise me!

PS Ignore my ticker - got a bit fed up with updating it and haven't posted on here for a few months!

I didn't take my FF charts but i did tell the GP that i was temping and doing OPKs - tell your GP what your cycles are like and if you appear to ovulate. They will ask the best question ever 'are you having sex'.... i liked that one!

Basically so long as you have been trying for 12 months most GPs will refer you for the first round of tests - bloods for you and a sperm analysis for your OH.

I took everything with me, I wanted to show thems how serious I was and I wasn't going to be fobbed off. I took FF charts and all the tablets I was taking. Also don't leave his room until you have been told to get blood tests done!!
I also pushed for them to test dh sperm then as well, which i am so glad I did as that has turned out to be the main problem and I know we have now saved a lot of time!

Hi Bluey - u seem in a pretty similar place as me. I am 34 and have been trying since Jan 08. I went to the docs back in Decemeber as I was so stressed and feeling depressed, partly with ttc and partly just life. I took my print outs from Fertility friend about 4 months of charts and told him I was using my CBFM from May and taking pre-pregnacy vitamins. He took me seriously and I had my cycle day 21 day blood test to check for ovulation in Jan - that came back grand. My DH was also advised to do a sperm analysis - he has been dragging his heels about it, but finally we are doing it this week. The next step is to go back to the docs and discuss the sperm results and see what is next. The doc did say before if there were issues it would be a referral to a specialist at the hospital.

I think ur doc will take you serious and should offer you tests for ovulation and ur partner a sperm analysis. Hoping ur get the tests pretty soon and the result too - my main delay has been my DH! Hope all goes well for you this afternoon. Let us know how things go.

Hi i would take your charts and tell them if your doing opk etc, tell them you time intercourse and how long u been trying etc. They will more than like you send you for bloodwork on cd21 (or 7dpo) and more blood tests on cd3 of your cycle to check hormone levels they will probs check your OH sperm as well.

Also tell them if your cycles are regular or not etc, good luck let us know how u get on xxx

Hi all! Well, new GP was a lovely lady! Very easy to talk to and very encouraging. She referred me for blood tests (day 21 progesterone, oestrogen levels, FSH & LH levels, thyroid function) which I went and had this afternoon. Now sporting a sore left arm & a certain impatience to find out the results next week!!!

She has also referred DH for sperm analysis but has suggested that she would normally wait for 18 months of trying before suggesting investigations & so post-dated his referral slip til May.

Sounds like you doc has been good in getting the ball rolling along ur joruney. Hope the results from you blood test come back good next week. Its good when your doctor listens and takes you serious.
