So, my 23 weeker will be a year old next week. She has been off oxygen during the day for many months now but is still wearing it at night (just a tiny amount .03). I have an oximeter and do 'spot' checks every now and then when she is sleeping during the day and her oxygen saturation during deep sleep without the oxygen is never below 93%. It is always between 95% and 99% while awake.
I am wondering when to stop the night time support? Her pulmonary specialist always talks about her being 'almost' ready but never actually gives me the go ahead to stop the night support. Her pediatrician thinks she should be off it completely. I personally don't think she needs it... if she is feeling well. Here is my worry: When she is starting to get sick or runs a fever, her O2 sats drop to 90% and her heart rate skyrockets to 130 at rest (160 while active and awake). I have read that this a perfectly normal thing when anyone has a fever or is sick but with CLD, it scares me.
Just looking for opinions from moms who have already dealt with this situation.
