am debating on changing her to hungry baby milk and there seems to be mixed opinions on it, i dont have a health visitor where i live so all advice appreciated. some people say she is too young and i know they should feed often but surely not those quanities? esp when it not satisfying her for long? i know she is young but surely if she needs it she needs it?

6 weeks does seem a bit too early. If your baby is taking 8-9oz every 2 hours or less and waking frequently for feeds during the night, then hungry baby milk could help her avoid being sick and over-eating.
My DD2 would feed every 2.5 hours during the day at that age, and only went to a 3 hourly routine at 12 weeks, and never wnet 4 hourly during the day until after she was on 3 meals a day (about 8 months).
Hungry baby milk doesnt contain any extra calories, nutrients or goodness than first milk. It is just harder to digest, meaning it satays in the baby's stomach for longer making them feel full. It can cause constipation and discomfort, especially in younger babies. Its really ment as a helpful tool to delay early weaning, so babies can reach 6 months on a milk diet until their stomachs are ready for food. xxx

but when your baby was feeding every 2.5hours was it taking that amount of food?

She was taking about 6oz each time, so probably about 36-42oz per day in total. xx

my health visitor says hungry baby milk is meant for older babies, around 4 months who are hungry ie want to go on solids but its still too early.

i think 6 weeks is far too early.

so afterall was with the doctor today and turns out she is 11lb now at 6weeks and 3days, both nurse and doctor agreed without a doubt to change her to stage 2 hugry baby milk

How much did she weigh at birth? 11lbs at 6 weeks isnt that heavy. DD2 was 12lbs 6oz at 6 weeks, 6 days and doc and HV never mentioned HB milk. Im sure your doc and HV were saying what they thought was best. xxx

She was 7lb 3oz at birth, for last 2 weeks more or less she has been drinking 6-7 oz bottles every 2-3 hours though wouldnt be unheard of that she wouls look another bottle 1.5 hours later

That's probably about the same rate of growth as my DD2 as she was 8lbs 11oz at birth. xx

strange how different health professionals have different opinions on hungry baby milk!

Hungry milk is meant to delay early weaning, so I'd try not too use it this early!
