Hello,

I would like to get some advice...DH and I have been trying to conceive our 2nd child for over a year and a half now. No luck at all. We’ve been using OPK’s as well. I am 33 and DH is 38. We have a 7 year old and it took just over a year to conceive her.

now the next step is to get some tests done. My AMH levels are normal. DH hasn’t hasn’t been tested yet.

We are considering going straight to a fertility clinic instead of doing all the tests at my local OBGYN office. I’m just nervous and don’t know what to expect. I suspect I may have endometriosis. I’m also just not sure about how we’d even pay for something like IVF (we live in the U.S.) I’m not keen on going on the assisted conception route but we may have no choice. I am terrified of even just getting my Pap smear done.. so the whole thing sounds very daunting and uncomfortable. Just looking for general advice for someone who is just starting out on this journey. Thanks!

Hi hun I’m 37, I have a 10 year old son and struggled to conceive him. I have PCOS so have problems ovulating on my own. Fast forward 10 years I’m with a new partner who is 13 years younger than me and no children.

here I am trying again all these years later. Coz of my age I’m worried I don’t have much time left. In regards to fertility and assisted conception, there are lots of medications that can be tried first such as clomid or letrozole. It may be worth getting blood work done to check hormone levels like LH, FsH, thyroid and testosterone levels. When you’ve been using ovulation tests have you been getting peak surges?

may be worth going to fertility specialist to have a chat about options… I hated being poked and prodded too but I’m pretty much used to it new. I’m short there are lots of things that can be tried first before the more invasive methods like IVF.

I’m on 4th medicated cycle now and am taking a load of supplements too, it sped up maturation of my follicles this time around. So worth looking into everything.

hope this helps

Thank you! Yes, I get an LH peak every month. Haven’t had other blood work done yet. My OBGYN said meds wouldn’t help since I don’t have PCOS...but I feel like going to a fertility specialist would help determine the next steps. Hopefully there will be some other options to try before going straight to IUI or IVF.

Good luck! Hope you get your BFP soon!

Thank you and good luck to you too x

it's a good idea to visit your doc to know more also how to increase your chances. As to IVF, according to the stats, only 15% of couples who are struggling with infertility need to undergo IVF. You are very young, and other treatments might work out for you. x
