Ok so Izzy is now just over 2 weeks old and we are finding it really hard to get her to burp.... she seems to go the whole day with having wind and it's affecting her sleep (and ours).... I started her on the infacol 3 days ago but it doesn't seem to be working.... sounds silly but it's really getting me down as I've tried different posistions for winding her but whatever I do doesn't seem to work.... today I've increased the infacol too two droppers so will see how that goes.... do you think it's worth me changing her milk not sure if that could be anything to do with the wind?? She's on SMA GOLD at the moment.... any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Changing milk is definately an option.
However what we found that really worked was changing bottles to Dr. Brown. It helped with Abbies wind so much.

Before changing bottles we did try aptamil comfort which helped a little but made her really runny as it's for colic and constipated babies and she wasn't constipated.
Since changing bottles we changed to aptamil stage 1 which is fine for her.

We did also give a half dose of gripe water as the poor child had so much trapped wind (she was about 3 weeks old by this point but the bottle says not to be given before 4 weeks).
Dentinox helped more than infacol did.
Infacol needs about 2 weeks to build up before it is at it's full effectiveness. I didn't find it any good at all.

The best way I found to wind Abbie was her up on my shoulder and me wandering round patting her back.
Or I would lay her down for a few minutes to let her have a stretch, then picked her up and she's often have a burp.

fins a pain for burping, takes hours sometimes.... i have to do a combination of sitting on each knee, bouncing as i do... putting the palm of my hand on his belly and his head in my elbow - i hold on to his leg... over the shoulder... sitting him on my jelly belly facing away from me...

you can try a half dose of gripe water, i used it when fin was 2 weeks... only when i was desperate to get something up tho cos those burps are pretty violent!! persevere with the different ways of winding is the best way hun.... seriously, we can go two hours sometimes and we just mix between each position and get there in the end!

oh - carrying him down the stairs works quite well!

As angelae36 said, infacol takes up to 2 weeks to work. But for us we saw a big improvement after nearly a week - the burps started coming up a treat!

A little used but very effective burping method for us (when he was small enough!) was to put one hand round his tummy, the other round his back and lift him up in the air - sounds odd but it fetched loads out! You could also try laying her on her front across your lap and rubbing her back.

The Dr Brown's bottles reduce the amount of wind your LO will get in the first place- but it doesn't help get what there is out - so they are only a partial solution.

Unfortunately at the end of the day it's trial and error as to what will work woth each baby.

We tried changing milk, teats, dentinox, infacol, gripe water and changing bottles before we found the right combination.
As blah says the Dr brown bottles don't help get the wind out but are invaluable to my daughter for her not getting as much in the first place.

She is 17 weeks now and rarely has a problem with wind so they do grow out of it but it is sooooo hard to begin with.
