hi

I had a scan on 20.12.10 and was delighted because after 2mmc I saw a heartbeat for the 1st time so I was delighted and mw said it a very strong heartbeat and dated me at 6w 3days and baby measured at 6.5mm which is average for this stage and picked heartbeat up via tummy scan which is good.

However, I had my dates at 7+ weeks, LMP 31.10.10,therefore, is it normal for your dates to be out by up to 6 days?? I am not really clued up on how to work out due date, stage etc and when you google you get so much conflicting info

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have also posted this in 1st tri but thought members here would be more understanding of my paranoia lol x

i went in for my first scan expecting to be between 7+3 and 7 weeks.
they dated my little one at 6+5 with a nice heartbeat, 160's if i remember rightly.
next scan i had my bean was dated 3 days ahead from the original dates, which fits better my my "dates". every other scan i've had baby has been 3-5 days ahead of the original dating scan!

baby is SO small at that stage, its pretty hard to get it 100% right. im sure they have a give or take X amount of days is completely normal.

there could be many other factors too like a late implantation, etc!

good luck hun xxx

Yep - it's +/- 5 days at this stage - once you get to your 12 week scan it'll be far more accurate.

Glad all is looking well :)

Hiya firstly congratulations, yes its completely natural, I was certain of my dates but they put me back by a week and its stayed that way -5 days since, !

Well if it was an abdominal scan then that would explain a lot. Normally scans at this stage are done internally and you get a more accurate measurement. It's harder to see over the tummy so the measurements could be off by a couple of mm which makes a huge difference in the dating at this stage.

I am sure it's all fine xx

thanks everyone for you assurance and support, it has certainly put my mind at rest. I think it just natural after loss that you scrutinise(sp) every detail and just keep praying for a happy outcome.

But oh the feeling of seeing that heartbeat was just the best ever :happydance:

Thanks again and wish you happy healthy pregnancies :hugs:

Great news about HB!!! and that midwife was so positive.

I had a early scan due to bleeding and they put my due date back by about 7 days (I think!!) but when I had my dating scan at 12 weeks that put me back on track to my LMP. My consultant asked me about the variation and said which did I feel was right! I knew exactly when my LMP was and as that agreeed with the 12 week scan I was back to my original edd. Early scans are not as accurate for dating. I would not worry - HB is there and things are looking good.
