Hi ladies,
I am a little excited/scared!! We've got our elective section booked for next Tuesday! It's beginning to feel a bit too real!
I am starting to worry about surgery and recovery but, mostly about my 3yr old not being left out!
Does anyone have tips/advise about keeping my daughter involved/secure?
Thanks in advance!

Exciting!! :baby:

Can you have your daughter brought to the hospital when you've had the surgery or later on that day?

That way she can meet her new sibling straight away. Also maybe get her something little "from" the baby so that she feels included and like the baby has a special gift for her?

Hi! Daddy will be going home to pick her up from preschool and thn bringing her back to meet baby! We have tried to get her excited about baby by letting her dress her dolls in her little clothes and using the tiny nappies too. I am just scared that she'll get anxious about being replaced etc! It's a massive minefield!! I've read lots about not holding the baby the first time that they meet and to make the focus be more on what the older one has been doing with their day and what they will be doing later on that day. My husband will be taking her out for dinner and then she'll be sleeping at her friend's house next door! Luckily, they'll be going on a school trip to the beach earlier in the day so, she should have lots to tell me!! :) xx

I think you have to go by how your daughter is normally; I've only got one baby but I've heard things like not holding the baby and things like that, but I think it depends on how she would react. You could do it like "someone has come to meet you" and have a two way hold with her, if you see what I mean.

I think it's difficult as when you get home your baby will be in your arms a lot of the time, but with the prep that you've already done with the doll I think your daughter will be fine and most likely excited. She's also a an age where she can 'help' with things like passing nappies etc to get her properly involved.

I think it's a great age gap, our friends all have babies with siblings the same age as your daughter and they're so protective, it's gorgeous to watch
