All Inclusive holidays? Recommendations please

I have decided to be brave and venture abroad with the kids so am looking for recommendations, advice, suggestions.... anything to make it as stress free as possible.

I am thinking Portugal, because its known for being family friendly and the flight isn't that long from Birmingham. Does anyone know of any safe, clean, reasonably priced apartments? Also, is all inclusive better value ? I thought for a family of 5, it might be better to have everything included as eating out can get quite pricey.

Probably will be going mid October.

the only drawback to all inclusive is that is limits you. the last time we were abroad (with jack and leah) we went half board, so breakfast and dinner, and even at that i would say we were only back at the hotel for dinner on 3 out of 7 nights
