Hi all

Im not sure what is wrong with my lo.

Shes 3 months and 3weeks old. For the past 4weeks she has all of a sudden become very very hard work to feed. As soon as she sees the bottle she cries. Ive been to the docs and raised this time and time again. And the last visit the Dr prescribed Gavisgon. This has helped alot- shes keeping her feed down.

She used to drink between 20-26oz a day and now is around about the 16-18oz mark! Im seriousley at a loss here and I just dont know what to do anymore. Im looking up things like allergys, could she have now developed an allergy to formula milk and refusing to eat? Shes on Aptimil and has been since birth.

Today she has merely had 7oz. Its so frustrating:( She cries soo bad and i end up in tears cos she doesnt feed. She has poor weight gain also.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you.

:hugs: Oh hun, this must be so upsetting for you......I'm not sure what to suggest.
When we left hospital, we were given a 24hour phone number to call for any feeding problems, did you get anything like that? Could you ring the post-natal ward at your hospital to see if they can give you any advice?

It sounds like reflux...

An allergy she would be havin green watery pooh, lots of diaper rash etc...

Something my doctor suggested for us was a feed with less iron as most formulas are iron fortified and it can upset their tummys.

You may want to think of starting some rice cereal, she is old enough, she can also have water and soon other things added to her cereal. Once solids are started and they are having less fluid it can help sometimes, it is also recommended for reflux babies.

I was put on soy milk when I was a baby because they thought I was allergic to normal milk. Maybe you could try that?

Thanks girls for your replies.

After lil bubs screaming and crying episode and a talk with the NHS direct line, we were told to take her to the GP at the hospital.

GP checked her over and after a long chat with whats been going on, he is certain that it is Reflux still. Jess has been on Gavisgon for a week and a half and the crying comes with a learned behaviour that she has developed and it takes time for this to go.

The GP was saying that she cries as soon as she sees the bottle as she relates this to the thing that makes the acid come up and hurt her and now she is scared. :(

The GP ruled out any milk allergy at this point as she would be constantly crying and have rashes etc etc. Which she doesnt have or do.

I explained the only time i can get her to drink milk is when she is dream fed, his advice was to continue doing this if it means she will drink. Its not the norm, but I have to do it.

Im keeping an eye on her and seeing how much she drinks, the last thing i want is for her to drink so little that she is dehydrated.

All day yesterday she drank 13oz!!!! Its so worrying. I was told to take her back in straight away if she still refuses to drink. I am also going to have a chat with my HV to see if I am able to wean her early.

You should really try to find a formula with low iron... it really has helped us an Jasmine also suffers from reflux.
