Im concerned slightly. We are 5.9kg and in a month we put on 1.1kg (were 4.8kg at 2 month)

My dd is eating 6oz every 3 hours and sleeps thru the night. This works out approx 6 x 6oz bottles which is above the national avge. There are times when she seems hungry after feed but im reluctant to bump her to 7oz.

She was born preterm and i was so happy when she was eating and putting weight on and now im concerned (((

I dont know what to do. I feel awful... i have a health visitor coming on thursday so will ask her then. But i need mums opinions here even the harshest. Am i doing something wrong? Should i bump her to 7 oz hoping that she would feed less frequently?

Feed on demand. If they finish the bottle then make an extra oz and only feed when they are looking for a feed, and stop when they stop. Babies cant be greedy and will take what they need.

have you looked on the weight charts - 1kg in a month seems about right for that age. She seems to be following her centile line. 5-6oz every 3-5 hours seems about right. Its suggests 2.5oz per pound of weight so that would be 32.5 so not far off what she is having

Remember average is for the middle it doesnt mean its the correct amount just that when its all added together and divided it the number that comes up.

My daughter always took more than the typical recommendations even when she was on breastmilk. We tried giving her more in hopes she would go a little longer and it didn't work she just ate more. Feed on demand. Give the baby what she wants. If she's hungry she won't be happy. I'm pretty sure up until maybe 2/3 months ago mine was doing 6x6 too but was taking one every 2 hours! A fed baby is a happy baby.

I agree with the other ladies hun. I've always fed all of my babies on demand regardless of how long ago they had a bottle. a feed every 3 hours sounds about average for her age and try remember not every baby is the same. The guidlines are just that.. a guide.. most babies take above or below that xx

Oh my gosh the amount of time I spent worrying about my baby eating too much food as a newborn was insane. There's always some thing to be anxious about, right? Haha.
I worried so much because at 2 months my guy was drinking double the recommended amount!!! But I should not have worried at all because then 2 months later he was only drinking HALF the recommended amount. Theeeeeen after a few months I realised that I needed to disregard the recommended amounts and listen to my baby :haha: when they are growing, they will drink lots. When they don't need it as much, they will slow down. It's okay :)

Honestly, it is okay! Your baby will be eating lots because she is growing lots physically and mentally. She will take what she needs, and if she over feeds she will just be sick. I know it's hard, but try not to worry too much about it.

Thank you all for reassurance. Funny things is now that she is now only taking 5oz now - and i was gonna bump her up to 7oz for the first and last feed of the day. True what you are all saying - give them what they want!

Much appreciate your replies

Hugs

I read on here that when they completely finish 50% of their bottles then you should make an extra oz. My wee one usually has more first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

 keeping you on your toes already. It's likely it was a growth spurt hun :)

As the others said just feed on demand. You're unlikely to go wrong and she's following her centile line. At that age my son jumped from 25th to 75th by 5 months and no one batted an eyelid. He's now on 90th at 10 months and a healthy happy baby
