On youtube last night, found vids of kids that are ages with Emma. They were able to talk - albeit to name things, not sentences. And one even can balance on one leg. Emma only knows a few words, and even then she will use ONE word all day. Liek today everything is Beau - My horse! Dada is Beau, I am Beau......bunny is Beau.

She does speak in her own wee language though. I used to do this to, well my sister and I had our own language for ages.

But should I worry? MIL is sure that she does speak, and I have heard random words as a one off - they are said in context so I know she has got them. But she wont say it again.

The only word she will say every day is Juice. and she does this weird thing where she stands with ther hands clasping and unclasping them and going "ca ca ca ca ca ca ca" - we think coping her dad as he cases her going raaaaaarrrr and with pretend claws.

I think Emma is around the same age as Olivia, and she sounds like shes just fine! Sometimes I think these videos and things are older bairns who look younger iykwim?

Ruby says a lot of words BUT she is 16m and can only just balance on 2 legs :haha:

Don't worry! People generally only put "3 week old doing algebra" type videos on youtube because it is exceptionally rare...def don't compare your daughter's development to what you see there. Often these kids have been drilled with the task they are doing on a daily basis for months and so it isn't natural learning or a measure of their overall ability but rather a single task that the parent has obsessed over!

Lx

You can't compare to something you've seen on youtube! Emma is doing fine! Ella barely said anything at Emma's age. Even now she's not saying a huge amount, although she's definately really sprouted over the last month or so.
I don't really like to think about how some of these young kids learn to do these things that kids years older wouldn't be expected to know. I'm sure some of them are just naturally clever, but can imagine some of them being forced day in day out to practice something so they can film it and put it on youtube.... :(

omg i never thought of this. ahhhhhhhhhhh i need to hop to with teaching my son stuff :( lol

that one of the little girl doing a jigsaw is probably something she's been trained to do. like the order she did it in, iykwim?

I agree with Lois that it's the exceptional ones you see on youtube really though, that reading baby is amazing!

My son should probably be doing stuff that he's not doing. But he's happy, healthy and is reaching all his milestones even if he's not exceeding them by massive amounts!

I wouldn't worry at all. These videos are on youtube because, like other posters have said, its really rare (and they may have been trained, or are actually older or whatever).

also the jigsaw one you can see the mother making sure she has the next piece, not a random piece and they probably do it like every day. my son just likes pulling puzzles apart hehe

Jaycee says everything is daddy.. Our dog is daddy, Her sister is Daddy, Random people on the street too lol! Drives me mad lol! she can say other stuff like hello, bye, no and all that but not a lot compared to some I hear and she is 19 months!

Lilliana is 15 months and she rarely says any word more than once except "No:. :haha: Although she's said MANY words! I can rarely get her to repeat them. She's so stubborn.

She also says "Bob Bob" (like Sponge Bob) but she uses it as a reference to every toon she enjoys watching. :)

I would be more upset if she wasn't saying anything at all I spose. Plus she's a complete chatterbox! Now only if she could translate it from gibberish to english for me! :haha:

When she had her 15 month appt. the Dr said she was verbally advanced, so I doubt you have anything to worry about! :D
