Sorry this has taken so long but wanted to share my birth story as my yellow bump turned pink on Fathers Day!
On the Wednesday before I'd hardly felt baby move all day long and had a big nose bleed which i'd never had through pregnancy so spoke to my midwife and she said I should go to the hospital due to the reduced movement. I went in to get checked out about 9pm that night and we got home just before midnight and went straight to bed.
I woke up at 2:30am on the Thursday morningthinking I was peeing myself as I was feeling just a little trickle and by the time I got to our ensuite (about 2 ft away from my bed) and switched the light on there was water all over the floor, I definitely didnt expect it to happen like this! Rang l & d and was told to go in and get checked out to confirm. Basically by the time I got there I was having contractions every couple of minutes but by the morning they had slowed right down and were very irregular. Labour ward was so busy that ''it wasnt really safe'' to induce me, they had 11 people in active labour and only 6 delivery rooms so people were having their babies in side wards on the maternity ward!!!
I was still having contractions and in quite a bit of pain so they gave me a pessary on Friday morning and said that would get things going but it doing
So they left me until Saturday morning and induced me with the drip. I was terrified as the mw through Friday night said that most people opt for an epidural before the drip goes in because its soo painful so I was dreading it but decided to see how it went.
Got took down to delivery about half 10 and the drip was put in about 11:30. Started on the gas and air about 2ish and by about 4 oclock I was in quite abit of pain but kept refusing more pain relief as I didnt know if I was progressing and was worried about having too much too early. Basically I was checked at 4:30 and I was 6cm so was quite happy and was given some diamorphine which I would really recommend, it really took the edge of the pain and I didnt need anything else for the rest of the labour. They checked me again at 8:45 and I was only 7cm and was absolutely gutted. Checked again at 11:15pm and I was fully dilated but the midwife wanted to wait an hour to let baby come down. This was so hard not to push through this time and just after midnight I started pushing.
Babys heartrate kept dropping and the doctor started talking about csection and forceps delivery and this just made me think I'd gotten so far that I didnt want either of those and thankfully the midwife knew what she was doing and said we should just give me abit more time
I started to tear and they said it would be quite bad so had to have an episiotomy but my beautiful little girl was worth every second of it all and I'd do it all again tomorrow for her!! Daddy was soo happy that baby arrived on his day too
So here she is, Amelia Grace weighing 8lb 13.5oz born on Fathers Day at 1:13am
