Anyone know anything about amh levels? Nurse called and told me my level was 8.8 but was very vague and explained everything very poorly and now I'm worrying :/ anyone?

** update: wish that nurse would have never told me those things on the phone and made me worry! Specialist seemed okay with the levels :) but that still leaves me in unexplained. ..

Hello!

Did the nurse say what unit it was measured in? I know in the US and Australia they measure it in different units. This significantly alters how to interprete the result.

I know that's what I've been seeing...no she didn't. ..so one unit shows me in low fertility. ..the other unit shows me high which could be pcos....ugh so confusing ..guess I will call my doctor tomorrow

Hope the doc is helpful and tells you the unit.

Honestly don't stress too much about AMH level. If you are not ovulating it can actually have an affect on the level. Although normal doctors will disagree with this. Best person to discuss AMH levels with is a fertility specialist.

19 months ago I got an extremely low result. My doctor told me that We will struggle to conceive. We went and saw a fertility specialist straight away after and the results are no where near as glum as they were first described to us! 6 months after that we moved overseas and I had my levels re tested. The new doctor also told me that we would struggle and would have to seek IVF help straight away. We spoke with our fertility specialist back home and he reassured us that the levels have only dropped a tiny bit, so everything will be ok. 10 months after the second test we had my levels tested again. The difference this time is I was no longer on birth control pill and was actually ovulating and my levels came back normal!! 3 weeks after we got those results we got our BFP!

Don't get too worried by what the doc says. You defiantly can still conceive with low AMH levels. It's is still a relatively new test. So all the ins and outs of the results has not fully been analysed over a long period of time.

Heya hun, on the uk scale 8.8 is low fertility potential, i had mine done in june this year and was 10.7 - low fertility too. In the uk we use the pmol scale for the alternate measurement we divide that by 7 to get the US equivalent. I think AMH has to go hand in hand with other tests results to mean something significant. I have read conflicting things about amh - some state that it is static and cannot be altered, only get worse yet some people have seen improvement with their results. Its all very confusing!

for example i have a diminished reserve/premature ovarian failure. So although i have an AMH of 10.7, i am a poor responder to IVF and i have a steadily rising FSH level too so together isnt so good.

I agree with the pp the best person to discuss this with will be ur fertility specialist asap xx

Thanks guys! I called him today, he is out of town at a conference till next Thursday! I guess it is what it is... Should be starting my first Iui cycle on Friday so hopefully my test results doesn't need my medication to be altered :/. Oh well it will all work out!

the nurse shouldnt have left you in limbo - not very professional at all :( Have u had an injectable cycle before? Wish u the best of luck hun x

Nope! Kind of nervous about it! Over 2 years of trying iui is the farthest we are going to go so hope it works!

waitingongod1 - Good Luck with your IUI!! :dust:

I replied to you in another forum but I am taking the injections daily and Hubby and I have decided to do IUI. I hope IUI works for both of us!!

I am in UK and have AMH of 8.3 which puts me in low fertility. I am seeing a specialist through a private clinic who actually said, although lower than he would like for my age (mid thirties) 8.3 is actually normal and I should be able to conceive naturally. I have been pregnant three times, only one living child though. I have now been prescribed clomid to start with my next period as i have a short lp and although I use opk's and temp apparently it still doesnt prove ovulation occurred...

Thanks! I have actually decided to take a break before iui . These hormones are taking a toll on my body and emotions. ..

waitingongod1 - You have to do what is right for you and your body, so if taking a break is the answer...do it. This whole journey takes a toll on us mentally, physically and emotionally, taking a step back to regroup is perfectly normal. I hope you start feeling better soon doll!

:hugs:

Hello ladies, I just found out today my AMH level is at 1.79ng/ml. Technically it is in the normal range, but the low side of the normal range and my doctor decided to refer me to a fertility specialist because of this??? Is that necessary? I'm not sure my thoughts on my current doctor. I've had 2 early miscarriages and I had asked him if he would check my progesterone levels because of this and he refused. My FSH and estradiol levels are normal which is great, but because my AMH level is on the lower side of normal he for some reason thinks I need to go see a specialist. I'm frustrated because this is very expensive and I don't know if it's necessary??? I've looked online at multiple websites regarding normal levels for AMH and here is what I've found...

Normal=Over 1.0ng/ml
Normal=1.5-4.0ng/ml
33 years of age or under=2.1ng/ml (I'm 31 and at 1.79)
33-37 years of age=1.7ng/ml

I've had my thyroid checked and it's normal as well. I've never had a child, just two early miscarriages at 5 1/2 weeks and just over 6 weeks. I haven't had an issue getting pregnant, just staying pregnant. Any advice or help would be great. I have an appointment set up with the specialist on November 25th, but trying to decide what to do. I have insurance, but I do not know if it will cover it or not. If it doesn't, this first visit will cost me $675!! Of course I will do what it takes to get pregnant with a healthy baby, but don't know if my doctor is jumping into the fertility specialist thing too soon or possibly for an unnecessary reason? I do have an appointment set up with another OB for a second opinion on my 2 mcs and see what her suggestions are. That appointment isn't until December 16th though. So I guess I don't know if I should go see the fertility specialist or wait to get a second opinion since "technically" my AMH level is in the normal range? Please help if you can. Thank you!

Hmmm.. in my experience I know it might be hard to wait to the December appointment, but I might get a second opinion first. Once you go to the specialist there is no turning back haha my insurance doesn't cover anything so it has been expensive. I think it will be worth it with the 2nd opinion. At the same time cutting to the chase and going to a specialist may get you pregnant sooner. Or at least to more answers :/ hard decision.

Thank you for your advice waitingongod1. I actually called the other OB's office today to see if they happened to have any cancelations and they had literally just gotten one, so I can go in on Monday!!! :happydance: I'm so thankful because this way I can get a second opinion on my situation and if she feels it is necessary for me to go, then I will of course. I haven't been thrilled with my current doctor because I had asked him if he would test my progesterone levels because of my miscarriages and he wouldn't, but said he would put me on vaginal progesterone cream when I got pregnant again??? What??? Totally doesn't make sense right?? So I am very happy I can get this second opinion before going to the specialist and spending a ton of money to find out everything is ok and it wasn't necessary that I went to the specialist.

Mrs Reineke - I am glad you called the OB office to see if they had an cancelled appointments. Getting a second opinion is a good thing b/c RE visits can be very expensive. I don't like that your current doctor said no to checking your levels. Its your money at the end of the day not his. Plus testing it is not hurting anybody so just confused on why he would not test you. I hope you get the answers you need from the new OB which will allow you to make the best decision for yourself going forward. Good Luck!!!
