Hi

has anybody else had this?

when i had my last growth and doppler scan he asked me if i had been leaking any fluid to which i replied no. im sure i havent my bladder isnt what it used to be but i know i leak a little wee each day but i am confident its no amniotic fluid. i said to him- why does it look low. to which he responded - i dont know i havent checked it yet. which i thought was odd to ask if i had been leaking. anyway he checked the fluid then looked at his chart and said it was low but within normal. so at the bottom end of normal

anyone had a similar experience? its worried me as my daughter was stillborn due to the placenta not working and she had IUGR and one of the first signs is smaller AC and low fluid levels. she had dropped in growth from her 29 week scan she was in the 56 percentile then and at the last scan at 31 weeks she was in the 26th percentile.

im keeping an eye on movements but slightly worried at the next scan that problems may crop up i guess xx

ADDED--

Fluid measurements

it says AF Index on my scan report which mean amniotic fluid measurement

at my 29 weeks scan it was 12.7cm and at last scan was 8.7cm at 31 weeks. consultant didnt seem concerned but he is convinced i just have "small" babies. i dont know how he has come to that conclusion you cant compare that to lexi as she was growth restrcited we have no way of knowing what weight she would of been if the placenta had worked. all the women in my family have good size babies at around 8lb so i am slightly concerned that the fluid level seems low. xx

I was told yesterday my fluid is on the 3rd centile so very low, but so far baby is growing normal. Did they say how low the fluid is? If he said it is just slightly lower than normal and didn't seem concerned then there is probably nothing to worry about. I have to have growth scans once a week now. When do you next go back? It's so worrying but I'm sure they are keeping a close eye on you after what happened with Lexi :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: xxx

thaks hun i just added my measurements from my scan. do you have your fluid measurement from your notes? my baby has measured small all throughout this pregnancy but not alarmingly small xx

i hope all is ok with your little one xxx

They keep my scan reports at the hospital and don't put them in my handheld notes so I don't know. But since I found out I have googled like crazy :( I'm sure I read that they only worry when it is below 5cms as that is the 'norm', so that would make your levels good. I will ask when I go back on Monday but I think mine was at 3cms. Compared to those yours look very good and the consultant isn't worried which is fab too xxxx

there is very litle on google isnt there. from what i can find 8-18 is normal so 8.2cm is just scrapping in there. i am very intrigued/worried to see what its like at my next scan which is less than a week is on the 18th as thats dropped by 4cm worth of fluid in 2 weeks. it seems under 8cm they become concerned. i hope yours is ok hun but its really good they picked up on it though. my baby girl had no fluid around her when she was born and my midwife never once picked up on how well squidgy my tummy was at my last appointment when i was carrying lexi.

im so pleased they have picked yours up. see this is another thing it can increase. women have been known to have their waters break and then fill up again. i dont think its overly common but it does happen xx

From wiki:
* An AFI between 8-18 is considered normal[4]. Median AFI level is are approximately 14 from week 20 to week 35[5], when the amniotic fluid begins to reduce in preparation for birth.

* An AFI < 5-6 is considered as Oligohydramnios[2] The exact number can vary by gestational age. The fifth percentile for gestational age is sometimes used as a cutoff value.[6]

* An AFI > 20-24 is considered as Polyhydramnios.

And another:
A normal AFI is about 12. But 8-18 is normal, too.

Yeah, I have read a few people saying theres has increased, but my consultant said it can't  I am still trying to drink loads of water though because it can't do any harm to try.

Yours definitely seems normal so far hun, maybe at the lower end but definitely normal. It's just hard because all you can do is wait until the next scan and see what has happened. Waiting drives me mad! Not long til the 18th though :kiss: xx

thanks for that hun :hugs::hugs:

all these consultants have such different views and opinions its unreal!! i have spoken to serveral and they all say different things. i have doppler scans every 2 weeks to check blood flow to baby and make sure placenta is working right. my consultant says if that comes back ok it means for 2 weeks baby will grow well. however most other consultants say the doppler scan is only good for 1 week. talk about mixed messages

let me know how you get on at your scan, i will be thinking about you and you are right drinking plenty of water is a good idea and can only do good xxx

mine was 6 at 33+5 - and said somethhing about 6cm below 2.5th centile...but i have no idea what this means except that my fluid is considered low too....xx
