Amount of time spent BF?

Just wondered if there are any guidelines or if anyone has worked out how much time they have spent/spend BF each day and at what age?

I am planning to BF and really looking forward to it but reading through the various posts it seems to me that BF takes up a lot more time than I remember bottle feeding doing with my DD - I just want to be prepared!

I wont lie, in the first few weeks you seem to be attached to the couch. BFing can take an hour or so. However it gets less and less and now Amelie can get her full feed within 5 mins. It just takes a while for baby to maximise milk getting outting lol

I obsessively log Sebastian's feeds and add up his cumulative minutes for each day (00:00- 11:59)

a proper geek...i know...

he has anywhere between 180 mins and 300 mins on the boob in any 24 hour period. Usually it is around 240 minutes on average though.

In the first days you will be feeding constantly as the baby tells your boobs what it needs and they respond. But try not to see it as a bad thing. This the time you get to rest and put your feet up. You've just given birth so sitting is a good thing! It also very necessary for the baby to feel close to you. They have spent ever second of their existence close to you, hearing you and being a part of you. Then they a forced out in to a strange and scary place and they need to know you are still there. So feeding isnt just about food - it's about helping the to adjust to their new surroundings with out being too traumatised.

There are no rules about how long it takes. So long as you get some help checking he's on properly then you just need to go with the flow.

My evenings were stuck to the sofa for weeks and weeks but you know what, I really miss that time we had now that she's down to 2 feeds a day. Cherish every second hun

averagely around 7hrs a day to begin with, to date 504hrs/21 days of the 12 weeks BF - wow thats a lot!! But so so so worth every single minute of it.

Man if I got paid for it minimum wage I would have made £2570.40 by now!!
