She actually came a week ago today. I had some post delivery complications so I've been pretty scarce. I went in at 9 am to be induced for high bp. They started the pitocin at 10:15 at which point I was at 3 cm almost 4. So seeing as this is my 3rd baby and I was close to 4 cm, everyone thought I would go pretty quickly.
Well labor stalled at 6 cm. at 1030 pm, I was still 6 cm and not in any pain. I was hoping to go natural. So my ob showed up and broke my waters. At that point the contractions finally picked up. I was breathing through them and happy actually that I was finally in pain. At 1130 I felt a slight urge to push so I had my husband get the nurse. She laid the bed back to give me a cervical exam and said I was 8 cm which had me bummed. But while she was in there I had another contractions and she goes "whoah....9....10.... Here comes baby, don't push!!!!" And I was screaming for her to sit me up. The pain of her being in there while having baby come was so immense.
My ob came running in, put gloves on an gave me permission to push (she didn't have a choice lol). The next contraction came and with no conscious effort on my part, Annabelle was born in one push my body did all on its own. All i remember is screaming "this is the ring of fire they were talking about." hahah. She was born at 11:38 pm and weighed 6 lbs 13 oz. she was perfect and so healthy. I finally got my pain med free birth.
Right after delivery I started to feel very bad. My bp was dropping rapidly, my heart rate was climbing and I was losing a lot of blood. There was talk at one point of a hysterectomy. But they gave me some meds to stop the bleeding and performed a d&c on me. That actually was the most crappy part of the whole no epidural thing. They were pushing on my stomach so hard and doing the uterine sweeps. Took about 2 hours all together to get me stable again. I lost a liter and a half of blood and my hemaglobin came back at 5. I ended up with a blood transfusion because they were afraid I'd go into heart failure without it. It was definitely scary.
The crazy thing is that not getting the epidural probably saved my life. My bp always drops dangerously low when I get an epidural and stays that way through delivery. So had I lost all that blood on top of already having low bp, I likely would have flatlined. I'm definitely done having kids now as they said this could happen again if I were to ever get pregnant again.
But with all that happened, all I could think about is how I was so fortunate to have a healthy baby. I would have felt immensely worse if something was wrong with her and I was fine. I'm so incredibly blessed.
