I also breastfeed my baby and he's now just over a month old. He's feeding fast and always gulp some air in ( i 'm quite sure as he makes the sound all the way through feeding )
i've tried everything i know to get him winded but he;s still very gassy and everyday cries because of it and now he's got griping pain. this morning it kept him awake for 7 hours, really make me feel like an unfit mother.
this is what i try
- sit him up on my knee and wind him
- put him on my chest and wind him
- gripe water
- infacol
- lie on his tummy
- rub his belly
- massage his legs
what else I can do ? I saw another thread talking about some food the mother can eat to help reducing wind in babies. What are they? I would do anything to help him feel better.
he hasn't slept for more than 30 min, since 14 hours ago :cry:

thanks for all advice

i cannot offer you any advice other than what you have done so far. i just want to send you and your baby :hugs: :hugs:

my little baby is 7 weeks old on sunday and suffers from terrible wind. he is bottle fed breast milk and formula. i have found infacol is the best product but he is still getting terrible wind but it has improved (a bit lol).

he hardly ever sleeps and evenings are a nightmare as that is when it tends to be at the worst. i find it very upsetting as it must be so painful with him. my health visitor told me it will get better with age. feeding can take up to 2 hours as i try my hardest to wind him!

i am not sure about foods the mother is eating - i am interested in this too since i am expressing milk.

i hope it improves for you soon and you both get some sleep.

Just about to go out so can't reply properly - sorry. Bit of info on foods and breastfeeding here though: Your Diet and Breastfeeding x

The best way for me to wind my LO is to sit her on my knee and bounce her whilst patting her back....is that what you do?
Either that or bounce her and rock her body from side to side, backwards and forwards.

I hope your LO starts feeling better soon.

I found cutting dairy in my diet really helped my son's gas. Part of it is just the age, and it will get better.

i was advised to xut out windy veges and all salads too...pretty much anything healthy!

So the burger i had tonight was the right thing to eat....:happydance:

Macdonalds here i come! :wohoo::sick:

i really recommend getting down the docs hun....

My LO was just how you described... and now with infant gaviscon in her feeds shes a different baby!! If your LO is just taking breast from you then you add it too cool boiled water instead of the milk!!

Your by no means an unfit mother... its just babys stomachs are so delicate and sensitive!!

I sympathise my LO is the same particularly in the evenings. I'm using gripe water, infacoldidn't seem to help. The only peace we get some evenings is when he has his bath it seems to soothe his tummy and he loves it. Maybe try to feed him before he's absolutely starving too might reduce the amount of air he's taking in but make sure he's awake enough to feed properly.

every time he cries for food, mil always says he;s not hungry and i'm just giving him more wind.
really makes me feel guilty. why can;t people just shut up !! ( i try to keep calm for the sake of my OH, he's a lovely man and wonderful daddy )
