So do I go for an NCT course costing £250 for about 16 hours worth of session over various dates or a free one day NHS course which is taught by our local midwives?

Too many choices!

Also due date is 11 December and if I choose NHS I have a choice of 13 October and 24 November. The idea is to go so you meet people at the same stage, a month before baby is due. I am wondering if 24 November is leaving it too late!

I did both and they were pretty much the same - the NHS one had a better breastfeeding teacher but I think that's because the NCT one had a bit of a chip on her shoulder about being the only one of 4 siblings who wasn't BF!

And as far as people I met, I'd also say about the same as well and I have kept in contact with an equal amount of people from each.

I did my NCT one over 3 weeks when I was 8 months pregnant and we were all due within 4 weeks of each other.

My NCT one was earlier but because there were more people there was a greater variety of due dates but plenty close enough to me.

So not much of a help with your choice but I would say they are much of a much :)

Another option is going along to the NHS classes (free but not as comprehensive as NCT) and contacting the NCT to see if they run a "Bumps n Babies" group near to you. The majority of couples choose NCT purely for the social aspects but there are MUCH more affordable ways to do this.
