I've got my 4d scan tomorrow and just received an email from the company with this bit attached...

For best results book your 4D scan from 24 weeks, 26-28 is ideal. If you have an Anterior placenta book 25-27 weeks, if your placenta is Posterior then 26-32 weeks.

I'm 28 weeks tomorrow with an anterior placenta, I've never heard of this before...I hope it will be ok and we get good pics..

Why is it better to go earlier? Is it because the placenta is blocking the view?

Sorry I can't help answer your question. I too have an anterior and have been thinking about a 4d scan but the thought my placenta could be blocking the view or something hadn't crossed my mind. It will be good to see the answers x

Surely they should have told you this BEFORE you booked? X

I know, I'm a bit annoyed. Will wait and see how the pics come out! It's too late now so will go and see. Just wondered if anyone else had there's later and it was ok! I hope so
Will post pics tomorrow!

I had a 4D scan at 18 weeks with no problems. We got plenty of cute pictures and were able to find out it was a girl. The tech didn't even mention my anterior placenta, because it didn't affect anything. I researched a few places before I booked the scan, and none of them mentioned anything about placenta positions either. Maybe call them and ask?

I have an anterior placenta and had a 4d scan done last week. It was difficult to get a shot of baby's face. I had to almost face lay down on the bed and she scanned from the side. This is the best image. As you can see 'the cloud' to the right is blocking some of the view.

I've just booked a 4d scan for when I'm 29 weeks. Will have to email them to see if that is ok.

I have an anterior placenta and had my 4D scan around 26 weeks. The tech was wonderful, she had me lay on my side and she managed to get some decent shots. It was definitely a bit more difficult as babe's head kept getting covered by part of the placenta but the tech was determined and would get babe to move. Here's a few shots. You can see in the side profile shot the placenta is over the back of her head/shoulder.

i had a scan at 25 weeks and my placenta was v much in the way.

I hope it went well. I had one yesterday and it wasnt very good at all, picture wise as i too have an anterior placenta. Still nice to see baby

I had an anterior placenta last time and didnt get great results from our 4D scan, so we've decided not to have one this time. Hope yours is better! x

i will be watching for updates. I am planning on getting one around 24 25 weeks but i too have a anterior placenta and am a bit worried..

If these are private scans do you mind me asking what they charge? How did you find the place to do your scan?

i googled 3d/4d scans by me. Here i think they are more expensive then other states but mine is 140 for the scan pics and cd free second visit it the first doesnt turn out well

Hi, it went ok. The placenta wasnt too much of a problem. Slightly disappointed with the pictures but the sonographer wasn't great tbh.
I will post them tomorrow. The placenta was one side and baby's face was squashed against my womb the other. Baby's hand was also in front of his face most of the time too as was the cord! He wasnt being very cooperative!
Even still I'm glad we went and found out everything was fine, 10 little fingers, 10 little toes etc and he's the spitting image of my other son!
