what was your lo weight gain like? I may have to attempt exclusively breastfeeding and also eliminating dairy from my diet as lo has a suspected allergy. My worry is that cutting out dairy would mean I would lose weight so does that mean lo wouldn't be gaining much weight on such a diet?

I had to eliminate dairy from my diet cos baby has colic.. and he has been gaining weight just fine

Yes, DS has CMPI. Weight gain is just fine - I haven't lost much weight though.

I don't have dairy anyway but after bfing my dd we found she's lactose intolerant. She gained wait as normal even without me having dairy products

My LO has a dairy allergy and he's been gaining at minimum a pound a week . And I've lost about half abound a week cutting the dairy as I eat better now

I am dairy, fish, soy and nut free!

My lo gains weight fine and I am also gaining weight :( boo for me yay for her

My dairy free baby's is a beast! Born slightly early and on 25th centile, then after initial loss taking him down to 9th, shot up to the 91st centile where he's been ever since!

I am also vegetarian!
I have lost weight, but it's been unhealthy middle fat that's gone, I'm fitter now than when I was 10 years younger!

I am gluten, dairy, and soy free and my LO gains like a champ. She was born 28th percentile and is now 87th. She was gaining a pound a week when very young.

I have known raw vegans, vegan but also on a far more restricted diet than usual, whose babies gained over a pound a week and were 25lb at under 6 months! I was dairy free with second youngest and later on had to cut out soya and a number of other foods, my son still gained 10-12oz a week for a few months. My youngest is a slower gainer never more than 7oz a week but I think that is just his natural pattern. In most cultures adults don't consume dairy products as they are lactose intolerant, they have no problems breastfeeding and have just as healthy and robust babies xx

I am dairy free, gluten free and mostly soy free. My LO was at the 95% for weight up until her 9 month check up. The only reason she dropped down to 75% is because she started crawling and cruising. BM conforms to the needs of the baby. Even if you lose weight it won't really impact the baby.

I have recently had to go dairy free due to baby's CMPI. I can guarantee I am/will be losing weight as 80% of my diet was dairy products. However from what I've heard, the milk will still take all it's nutrients that it needs from your body, but you will be left without. A good supplement is definitely recommended, but I don't think your baby's weight gain will be affected.

Most dairy alternative foods have high levels of vitamins and calcium added these days so most people don't need to take additional supplements if dairy free and BF. B12 and D vitamins are stored in the liver so don't necessarily need a daily intake. My GP who specialises in several fields and has many years of experience said most supplements are a big money making scam and even those with restricted diets are usually more than able to get what they need from food xx

I don't eat many dairy alternative items and my entire diet is quite lacking which is why I take a prenatal vitamin (also was reccomended while BF by my OBGYN) but yes you could probably make up what you are missing from dairy with alternatives.

Fair enough and that's why I said most people don't need them, there are exceptions and the amount of fortification can vary from country to country and product to product so it's important to check labels. Also most organic dairy alternatives aren't fortified with vitamins or minerals at all as they can't easily obtain organic versions of them. Xx
