Hi I am due to go on mat leave end of sept for 39 weeks, me and my partner have split up and deffo wont be getting back together, My rent alone is £500 per month thats all I will be getting on mat leave £135 per week, does anyone know if I can claim tax credits and housing benefit while on mat leave Im a mess at present, getting really stressed about money. Turn 2 us website is so confusing and I can never get hold of anyone on the phone as always busy.

I know if you earn under 26k as a couple you can get some ctc not sure about wtc. Best thing is to give them a call.

You will get approx £81 a month child benefit also.

If you are on maternity leave you can claim working tax credit as you are still classed as working while you are receiving payments from your employer.

You can claim housing benefit also, the amount you get will depend on your income. You will have to tell them that you are waiting to hear from tax credits and provide your notification letter when you receive it. You will also get child tax credit once the baby is born, and child benefit.
