So i now have an agreed date after a bad 3rd degree tear and a suspected large baby this time (est 7lbs at 32weeks).

I know i will manage the recovery-i had it worse with my vaginal birth!

Anyway! Are there any items out there that help in scar healing and abdominal muscles?

I personally wouldn't put anything on your scar. Air is the best thing for it I think and being kept dry. Mine is barely visible now and that's what I did. I won't be putting anything on it this time either. :)

Not sure about the abdominal muscles though, again I didn't do anything special, just took ibuprofen and paracetamol if I felt like I needed to and did the exercises that my physio told me to do. My midwife this time told me I have amazing abs so I must have done something right! :haha:

Thanks hun! My nurse's head told me i dont need anything but loose clothing and air but i did wonder if there was a new wonder product:thumbup:

Oh yes loose clothing and great big pants to come up over your scar!

Agreed with the air. I would go lay up in my room with my pants down and shirt up to get as much air to the scar as possible. Then after my nipples started hurting from breastfeeding I would have my shirt all the way up for some hair haha.

I have not used anything and my scar is barely even visible
I would suggest a nice belly band to wear around it to ease the pain and also it looks nicer and makes your tummy look flatter

I used nothing 2 years ago...and now I cant see my scar!!!!! :) I wont use anything this time either. Big granny pants though...so they dont rub and soft trousers.

oh yes big granny pants, i am still wearing them, i think i might need them for a couple of months yet. invest in at least two packs of ten granny pants and make sure you shower every day and have a cloth to gently pat on your scar, then for the first week after your section the midwife advised i put a sanitary pad over the scar and then to hold it in place, put my granny pants over it to keep the area dry. That seemed to work as my scar is barely noticeable, its just a black line basically with one purple bruise on the side it was opened for surgery the. the stretch marks are much worse lol but they fade

The only thing one midwife suggested to me was arnica tablets to help with the bruising. I'm only 3 days post-section so not sure if they're helping yet but keeping up with them anyway.

I am hoping to get a c-section too. How bad is the pain after? Since you are still in the recovery period, I would love to know. I keep hearing that you can barely move, laugh etc. etc. But I really want to avoid a vaginal birth for a myriad of reasons.

I've been really surprised to be honest! There's never been one moment where the pain has been intense or unbearable, occasional burning pain around the incision & you definitely have to take things slowly but I was out for a [short] walk after 48hrs & I've been out every day since. Didn't have any problems with stairs or sleeping (midwife suggested sleeping on my side with a pillow between my legs & I definitely found this comfortable)

I'm a week into recovery now & definitely not 100% - I still ache & can't do sudden movements, but I'm feeling really good, and enjoying the relaxing time with baby :flower:

Yes i agree the pain has never been unbearable with me either, just sore and very ouchy lol but never scream out loud "I cannot bare this" pain
I tell you what was painful, my first AF OH wow. My whole body contracted it hurt so much and i wondered if labour felt like that lol since I did not have labour at all, missed it thank god but yeah over all there were no yell out horrible bits not like recovering from having your wisdom teeth extracted and very minimal codeine for pain relief that was the worst night of my life, my mouth was in agony i could not stop screaming and crying out ot god to make it go away oh and during pregnancy my SPD got so bad some days I would cry since I had to hobble on crutches or not move at all that was hell  so yeah compared to pregnancy pain and tooth extraction, the section (emergency too, well semi) was a breeze in comparison

I'm really interested in belly bands - this is all new to me as I had an EMCS - can you recommend one? And when did you start wearing it?

I'm taking arnica - I haven't looked at my scar but midwives are very happy with it.

I'm reading about vitamin c and zinc as immunity and healing-boosting agents, as well as bromelain for inflammation.
I started taking vit C 1000mg x twice a day and zinc citrate 50 mg/day for the last 2 weeks and I am planning on starting combination Bromelain/turmeric after c-section - not recommended before surgery as it may thin the blood causing bleeding.
Other than that, I am keeping the faith that my body can heal fast.
I will continue those supplements until I heal properly.

I was in bloody agony and couldnt bear to move! But ladies in beds next tome who had planned sections were in hardly any pain.

after my second caesarean i laid flat on my back or if on side stretched out when sleeping. it made so much difference to the amount sharp pain i would get when standing up. if u stay in a hunched position the muscles etc heal in tgat position so when u try n stand straight they arent long enough to stretch hence the pain if u get what i mean. take pain medicine so that u can walk straight. the sooner u can get up and about doing thimgs the better that is why they sometimes tell u.to keep taking pain meds. so that will help with stomach muscles. i also use extra pads to cover my scar as even with bigger pants they used to roll down onto scar and irritate it. Keep the scar dry air it out and should heal properly. making sure u are eating healthy and drinking lots will also aid in it healing well

Can I ask a quick question? Are you able to take pain meds ie codeine/ibuprofen and the likes of arnica for recovery whilst breastfeeding?

take arnica tablets....they are a godsend...they help bring our bruising quicker so you heal quicker, i used it and recovered very quickly.

I went through a hellish 35 hours of back labor before my section, so the recovery pain pales in comparison. But, I've been sitting up and hunching over too much, so everytime I stand I have some sharp pains and there's a lot of shifting in there that makes me feel like things are going to fall out, but that's more a weird feeling than a painful one. I have needed my full dose of pain meds, though. I'm on day 4 since my section.

Try laying down stretched out a bit it will definitely help with sharp pains. I hunched over too much with my first and would get the pains months down the track. after the second a nurse said to try laying flat and i didn't have half the pains that i had with the first. I plan on doing the same after my next one in few months
