Im really considering going back to Uni an doing Nursing, but i dont know how we would cope financially iv looked into it an im not really sure what i could be entitled to...if anyone else is doing this at the min could u let me know how u cope financially an do u think its worth living off v little for a few years to get a good career at the end ???

I'm in my third year of training to be a midwife and have a 5 year old and a 3 year old. My Husband earns 21k a year and our mortgage is 500 a month. I get a student loan of about 2400 each year and a bursary of £350 per month. WE find it quite hard and at xmas and birthdays etc our credit card comes out, if the car needs taxing or MOT. But this is cos like an idiot i have relied on credit cards through the 3 years and now they are quite high and we pay 200 ish off a month and also have a loan of 200 a month. If we didn't have either we would have been ok........but i'm just holding out for a job in 10 months when i qualify!!! I'm silly with money and hate going without! xx

I was finishing a Masters thesis while I was pregnant and now I´m looking at doing a PGCE while I have an 8 month old, and my partner is currently studying as well.luckily we have savings and he still works in the evenings. Since I´m not starting my course til next September and I´m working full time at the moment it gives me enough time to save :) I think it´s doable to study and I think you should go for it while you have the idea in your head and while you´re able to, because circumstances change so quickly!

Ive just qualified as a medic after having my 2 during med school.
I am lucky enough that my hubby earns enough for us to be housed and to eat. My parents helped out with childcare (you can get 85% of it paid for you, but he earnt over the threshold).

It was a bit of a struggle at times, but I didn't take any time out and pushed on through. So now where most people are struggling to pay the bills, we've upped the income by £20k, just by me starting work!

For us and our circumstances - it definatley worked for me. I'm glad that I have done what I wanted to do and that I have family at the end of it too (if I'd have waited, who knows how old I'd have been when I started) (and, as ever, there is never a right time to start a family!)

Good luck!

Most universities have guidance and support info where you can make an appointment to speak to somebody about what you could be able to claim financially.
An alternative is the Open University - have you thought about that?

Thanks for the info ladies im lookin into makin an appointment with citizens advise an find out wot we would b entitled to, my oh isnt too keen on the idea but at the min i work in a call centre, the prospects for jobs period arnt good an nursing is something that is always needed an the money is good so im hopin he can come round to the idea, an im hopin we r entitled to a decent amount! but i doubt it! xx

have a look at this site cause you could claim hb and you would be exempt from ctb

Hi I'm a student and so is OH. we get childcare covered, we get the normal loans and grants (based on our income) and a parents grant. You will also get a bursary for doing a nursing course.
