I have always had tummy problems, but the have increased lots over the past couple of months. I heard that it is quite common for pregnant women to become lactose intolerant during pregnancy. I have started to notice i cannot stomach milk. I had my first bowel of cereal last night for the first time in weeks and sorry TMI but had really bad diarrhoea this am . My dr is running test for coeliacs and other problems.

Has anybody else had these problems?

I did with my daughter and with this pregnancy also, although for me its mostly just aversion to it--the thought of drinking it makes me gag. There's a thread about Lactose Intolerance over in pregnancy club. You should join in our discussion!

I've been off anything with milk in since I was 16 as it affects my Sinuses badly like Hayfever or a nasty cold... If you want any advice of what's dairy-free or where to shop give me an IM... :0)

Well I am waiting to see what results say but if I am lactose intolerant I will IM you thank you. I hope not because I love cheese :(

Don't worry, I loved cheese too but there's lot of alternatives - I have been able to replace cows milk cheese with Goats cheese, which has a lot of different varieties - hard and soft - and they all taste different... And some lactose intolerant people I know can stomach cheese from sheeps milk, Buffalo mozarella and feta...

Everything is not lost :)

I've always been lactose intolerant. Mine seems to get a bit better when pregnant but not too much. I get eczema and it just goes straight through me. Eating out is a nightmare lol. I do still have stuff with lactose in it though because I know there are certain foods that I need the nutrition from. I also drink a lot of water so that when I do have to run like a woman possessed to the loo, I'm putting back the water I've lost.

Are you allowed butter. just because when I was cutting milk out completely I was still eating butter on my toast and had some hard chedder on my potato and they did not seem to upset me. Milk, even a cup of tea makes me feel yucky but this morning is the first time I have actually been really poorly with it

I've always been mildly lactose intolerant, but it got worse when I got pregnant. I've switched to lactose free milk and that seems to have sorted it - cheese and chocolate don't really affect me.

I've always been lactose intolerant since I was a small baby but it comes and goes; my eldest sister has the same problem and just cut out all dairy for a few years then gradually reintroduced it into her diet and it seems to have sorted the problem out pretty much permanently but I'm afraid I can't live without dairy for several years. With me I often get it worst with cooked/melted cheese, even non-cow ones; I will be on the toilet five minutes later; I think its maybe the combo of the fat and the lactose melded together that my body just can't digest. I can have small amounts of milk on cereal and in hot drinks (but if I get any of those coffee house drinks with a lot of steamed milk; again its a problem) and yoghurt and uncooked cheese are also fine. Cream is a problem but elmlea is not (I think because its actually made from buttermilk which is similarly broken down to yoghurt by bacterial cultures). I can also have cakes and breads with quite a lot of milk baked into them absolutely no problem.

Well I dont feel like it after bread or cakes. mainly milk and as weird as it sounds babybel now makes me feel sick after eating it. I have been eating it loads as craving it but the last seven weeks or so it has made me feel sick as soon as I have eaten it. just cannot wait for my bloods to come back and they will hopefully tell me something as over the past four years I have had colonoscopies, gastroendoscopies, small bowel meals etc and everything shows up normal. I know there is something not right as when I have taken medications it has eased up but cannot take them now im pregnant. It has never been as bad as it is now and worry that I am missing work because of it

I've been lactose intolerant for over a year now after a tummy bug - hit me up if you want to know brands of food that are safe or any recipes etc!
