Hi ladies!

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with sperm counts after chemotherapy (ABVD) for hodgkins?

My DH was unfortunately diagnosed in Feb this year with hodgkins lymphoma but thankfully after 6 months of chemo is in remission.
We are desperate for a LO but a sperm count 12 weeks post chemo has shown oligospermia (1.6 mil) and slightly reduced motility and morphology (30%- normal 40%)
Prior to his treatment, we banked sperm and all counts were normal.
I know it's very early days and we're so lucky to have a back up with banked sperm but I wondered if anyone out there is/has gone through a similar experience?
In spite of hours of research there is no clear evidence (it appears) to show if and how long it takes sperm to recover after chemo.
We plan to recheck sperm in 3 months and continue to try in interim.
I guess I'm looking for reassurance but happy to take the not so successful stories too,:/
Thanks in advance!
Xxx

My husband has CML, a form of leukemia. We also banked sperm, but didn't want to use it until a last resort. His sperm count was zero at one point. He took shots of HCG for three months was able to get me pregnant, although he never went back to get his counts again because he's lazy and hates doctors now. :( It was a little pricy, but successful. The doctor said his counts would get back to normal on their own within a year though. In his case it wasn't actually chemo that messed up his sperm count, it was testosterone supplements. Although I'm sure the chemo doesn't help..

LizChase- thanks for your reply! That's reassuring to know and congrats on the pregnancy! I guess I've just gotta be patient but its not my forte! Best of luck for the best of the pregnancy! X

Hi Jowantsababy,

I came across this post and was just wondering if you had any update on your partners sperm count?

My OH was diagnosed with Leukemia over 2 years ago and at the mo is just having maintenance (tablet form) chemo. We haven't had his sperm count done yet as didn't think there was much point yet until he has completed finished chemo. Just hoping for some positive news so there is hope for us to fall pregnant naturally.

Thanks xx
