Hi all :hi:
Been TTC for a year ( I know that's not a massive amount of time in the grand scheme of things), and we've started to get tests organised (had 'cycle day 21' blood test and DH has SA soon). Despite this I've found it an absolute nightmare, depressed and Dh has found me hard to live with.

I was wondering if I would be able to get some kind of counselling specialist in fertility on the NHS?
And has anyone been through it, did it help you?

Thanks :hugs:

Most of the Canadian clinics offer it, you'd think it would be pretty standard with NHS. I hope the gloom lifts for you soon. I see you're studying psychology yourself! I always wanted to do this but chickened out in the end (with all the years you have to do before you actually get to practice). What sort of psychology are you wanting to get into?

I hope your tests shed some light for you, maybe a plan to go forward will offer new hope/happiness.

Thank you hun :hugs:

Yeah, Psychology is awesome! It's hard work, but I do really love it. I'm not intending to do psychiatry. I'm thinking more along the lines of Health Psychology (helping change negative health behaviours)

My Fav book that a marriage counsellor recommended to my OH and I was The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work by John Gottman. His horsemen stuff and the dividing arguments into long term unsolvables and short term resolvables...it all really dissects the relationship stuff into components that you can identify with and change. I love how he can also predict, with such accuracy, if a relationship will make it.

Have you seen that movie A Dangerous Method? about Jung & Freud? It's not rated well but I loved it. I hope you're feeling better soon bella!

Thank you, I'll have to have a look at that book :)

Yes, I have seen 'A Dangerous Method', I really like it... I love anything relevant to Psychology...

Have you seen 'Lie to Me' and 'In Treatment'?

I haven't been but when I got referred to the ACU I did get a leaflet about counselling available, so maybe you'll get this too? :flower:

I love this blog https://www.theinfertilitytherapist.blogspot.co.uk/?m=1 it's definitely worth a look :)

Thank you foquita! Been nosing through the blog, it looks really good :)

At my first FS appointment (uk nhs) i got a leaflet about it so u definately can get councelling xxx

In Northern Ireland, the fertility clinics have leaflets for the Fertility Counselling Service NI which is free with NHS, I can't believe other places that are NHS wouldn't have the same. Maybe call your nearest clinic and ask them who they use.
